Compass Rose was born on or around February 2009. The band got together to record a few songs that Jeff had written, and wanted to record. Jeff, Tim and Tammy knew each other from a previous band, and needing a bass player and male vocalist, Tim and Jeff hit the clubs and bars around Bloomington looking for the right people to fill the spots. They popped into the Bloomington Moose Lodge one night to catch a show by a local band, and were blown away by the guy singing lead vocals. Jeff and Tim approached Jeremy during one of the bandâs breaks and got him to agree to help out with the recording. A short time later, Jeff and Tim were out again at Maxâs Place in Bloomington, and happened to catch a show that Curt was playing. This guy was all over the bass, slapping it and popping it like crazy. Jeff and Tim approached Curt outside on the bandâs break and got him to agree to help out with the recording as well. Soon after, rehearsals started at Jeffâs place to put the new songs together. Initially everyone was nervous, didnât know each other (aside from Tammy, Jeff, and Tim), and really didnât know what to expect, or if this thing would even work out. Over the course of the first rehearsal, it became apparent that this was definitely going to fly. The band rehearsed through most of February 2009 and then hit Airtime Studios in Bloomington where, over the course of a few days, The Island, Run with the Moon, December Snow, and The 2nd Indochina War were born. It was at this point that the band decided to put together some cover songs and do some live shows. The band immediately got incredible feedback from their live shows, and started playing bigger and better places to larger crowds. During May and June of 2010, the band started putting together the final songs that would become their first album, âRun with the Moonâ. In July of 2010 the band headed to Nashville, Tennessee to work with Scott Velazco to cut the final tracks for their first album. Over the course of 5 days, the band produced 5 new songs, including Go Away, Blade of Grass, A Moment in Time, Fish, and Is This My Time.
