My Favorite Brunette (1947)
Stars: Bob Hope, Dorothy Lamour and Peter Lorre.
The great Hope was never better than this 1947 movie where he is tangled up in a complicated mystery. Hope plays a wannabe detective who gets drawn into a real investigation by Dorothy Lamour, and two menacing henchmen played by Lon Chaney Jr. and Peter Lorre give the twitchy comedian something to be nervous about. Woody Allen once named this rollicking comedy as one of the movies that gave him pure pleasure, and it captures the comedian at the peak of his career. And best of all, the last joke in the movie ends up getting delivered by Bing Crosby!
