Rob's new cd has been called, "Coastal Alternative" - an eclectic group of beach songs that range in style from folk-rock ballad and Hawaiian-folk style, to jazz and alternative-rock.

14 MP3 Songs
WORLD: Island, FOLK: Modern Folk

Details:
"Coastal Alternative Music" is music that people who love the sea understand. They are songs for folks who love the coast. They are feet in the sand and saltwater drying on your skin songs. They have some real thoughtful moments, but they're sure fun!
And San Diego-based singer/songwriter Rob Mehl, who's grown up on the beaches of California and Hawaii, has been playing and singing them for years. Accompanying himself on guitar and ukulele, his music displays a lifetime love affair with the sea and pays tribute to all the artists, writers, dreamers, adventurers, and watermen and women who have inspired him over the years.
With a crew of musicians from California and Hawaii, Rob has just released a new cd of eclectic island-style music called, "Could You Be More Pacific?"
Joining Rob and arranger/producer/songwriter Michael Ruff at Ron Pendragon's studio on Kaua'i from California were Jimmy Johnson (bassist for James Taylor), guitarist Gannin Arnold, (now touring with Billy Corgan), surf-guitarists The Duotones - Gil Orr (The Chantays) and Paul Johnson (The Surfaris).
The "local" Hawaiian crew included drummer Tris Imboden (formerly with Honk and Kenny Loggins, now with Chicago), Grammy & Hoku Award-winning Keli'i Kaneali'i (Hapa), Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom, and Hawaiian Steel Guitar master Kenny Emerson, as well as ukulele and Hawaiian-style guitarist Kirby Keough.
The CD's 14 cuts include 11 originals, 2 Hawaiian traditional classics, and one surf instrumental written for Rob by Gil Orr of the Duotones. The songs range in style from folk-rock ballad and Hawaiian-folk style, to jazz and alternative-rock.
