College Radio Pop Music
8 MP3 Songs
POP: California Pop, ROCK: 90's Rock
Details:
Rosemary Caine is the now defunct college-pop 5 piece rock troupe from Western Massachusetts that graced college radio from 1991-1997. Originally formed while its members were attending Amherst College in 1991, Rosemary Caine (the name of the band and confusingly not the name of any individual within the band- donât ask...) rocked the college party scene in the Northampton/Amherst area for 3 years before transferring their gear and brand of pop music to a dingy apartment in Boston.
Considering most of Rosemary Caineâs members didnât know how to play an instrument when they took up their project (mostly in an attempt to ignore more responsible job options) their accomplishment on the club and college scene seemed impressive (at least to those in the band). By the end of their 6 year run, Rosemary Caine had produced 3 full length albums, 3 EPâs, 3 7â singles, toured Europe and the U.S. performing to over 140 audiences, and had a series of successful college radio releases, repeatedly finding themselves in the CMJ top 200.
Foolisher Than Pride was the last recording put out by Rosemary Caine in 1996. By far their most polished work, it was received with modest critical acclaim (modest meaning that it was almost universally liked by the modest number of critics who actually reviewed it). Getting solid airplay on college radio led to successful touring around the US, in what amounted to Rosemary Caine's last hurrah. The album marked the coming to age of Rosemary Caine's pop sensibilities, mixed with a healthy dose of their acoustic roots.
Alas, with no major label picking up the tab, and with the diminishing rewards of the rock-star life taking their toll on members, by 1997 Rosemary Caine hung up the proverbial guitar strap for good, leaving on good terms as members went their separate ways.
Original members included J.C. Leveque, Nicolas Audy-Rowland, Drew Bancroft, Brian Abell, & Matt Arnold. Eventually Brian left to pursue art school dreams and was replaced on bass by Jeff Howington, who after 3 years with the band also decided to pursue art school in Italy, and was replaced by the versatile Jeremy Withers.

He also holds a dayjob doing information design and project management mostly on the web.
Jeff Howington- got his MFA from Bowling Green State University & Studio Art Centers International, spending 2 years in Italy in the process. Jeff now lives in San Francisco, dreaming of riding on a Vespa, currently teaching.
Matt Arnold- also went the medical route, and is currently finishing up training in Neurology, living in Los Angeles, with his wife & daughter.
Brian Abell was last seen attending school in New York City, and rumor has it that he married long time girlfriend Dina Kestenbaum. Current whereabouts unknown.
