5 Stars
The kind of song I could see on the radio. Very well put togeather, But I have always been weak for the women.
-- Fog Dawg Online Radio DJ--Pheonix Arizona.

-- Mr. Zone, Ontario Canada

Congratulations!
A very moving, interesting, and showcase CD. . .Your lyrics are at times, minimalistic, which I tend to favor as a style. Concise, sometimes almost terse, and yet they create powerful images in the mind of the listener. Your melodic lines are musically strong and blend so very well with your lyrics. The combined sounds of music and lyrics guide the listener to both understand and accept your thoughts, as they create the listener's personal perspective and images. Not many achieve this ability to impact the audience. You are well on your way.
-- Leo

great female vocalist
powerful vocals. this song is very well put together. i don't know what to say. i'd just like to hear this vocalist let loose, because she could surely handle it.
-- psilotum

Super catchy slab of pop (Two Girls)
Super catchy slab of pop Good work. Bouncy catchy track. I may be biased because I love this type of stuff. Reminded me a bit of Go Sailor or Tiger Trap. I would buy this CD in a minute. If I was to make any suggestion, it would be that it sounded almost too good and clear. Might sound a little better muddier.
-- joe

Burt approves.
Vey sexy, reminds me of the time I met this girl in Sarasota.
-- Burt

Forget 10 things i hate...I love this song!
I dont know why but there's a "10 things i hate about u" soundtrack feeling to this song. The vocals are great and so is the mood. Great job!

Rock on!
Good little balad. Nothing is invented here but it just a good little song for the summer I guess. Good job, we need more songs like that.
-- halifax

I want to marry the singer.
Cool groove. A good song, a great production. Rich, smoky melody, and the band has a great dynamic. Sign me up.
-- B. Masters

Ruth Cocherell - Lead Vocals
My roots are in the East Bay. In the middle of grad school, the inability to see myself happy doing anything else with my life led me to go forward with my plans to get a band together, get signed, and record an album. My quest took me to the wind swept rooftop of a parking structure at UC Irvine where I met Scott who was practicing there with his band. Other members of Scott's band flew up to Oakland work on the album at Bliss studios with Larry Klein until I met local guys Matt and Iestyn who joined up and finished up the majority of the recording. I got signed to an indie lable in San Francisco, and thankfully got out of the contract less than a year later. Now, Red Root just released our first album, engineered by Mango Labs and mixed and mastered at Prairie Sun in Cotatai. It is available at our shows and you will soon be able to purchase it through Amazon and Barnes and Noblel online, as well as MP3.com. As a bonus, San Francisco based 400 Blows Pictures produced and directed a music video for "Alexander" last summer and just finished up a live performance version shoot on March 29, 2001

Currently, I am working on writing and recording with Johnny Beane. We just finished up a song for the Indie film Mandy produced by 400 Blows Pictures. The single "Joy" can be downloaded from www.rootmusic.com.

Oh ya, musical influences. Great Songwriters: Leonard Cohen, Kurt Cobain, Bob Dylan, Natalie Merchant.

About the Cover Art
The album cover art was inspired by working in downtown Oakland, CA and observing the plastic grocery bags rolling around with the wind through the streets. A friend identified this trash as Urban Tumbleweed.
The cover art features Urban

Tumbleweed (plastic shopping bag & floating over cable car tracks at Powell Street in San Francisco. Unfortunately, no one has ever been able to figure out that this is what is on the cover. Most people think it's a dead chicken.
Esso si que es.

The intro to the title track on the cd was recorded with a lapel microphone into a minidisc player near Powell Street as well.
