Robert Bruce Scott: Vocals, Guitars, Bass Guitar, Drums, Mandolin
Evelyn Johnson: Harmony Vocal on "I Dreamed I Touched Your Face"
Jonathan Silpayamanant: Cello on "In the Sea"
This is the cd RBS fans have been waiting for. While building a following in Oklahoma, Robert Bruce Scott became known as a masterful acoustic guitarist. His lightning fast shifts between finger style and flat picking, finger-busting jazz chords and sparkling use of the 12-string provide the foundation for these songs.
For this album, Robert has returned to his musical roots - acoustic folk-rock with lush vocal harmonies influenced by groups such as The New Christie Minstrels, Crosby, Stills and Nash, and The Beatles. Woody blends refreshing, glistening acoustic rock with mellow folk stylings - leavened with a number of experimental surprises. The album also features Robert's superb, sometimes Flaminco style 5-string bass work.
Some of these songs have simple, direct, heartfelt lyrics - others spin yarns and weave complex webs to explore the human mystery. Water and wood flow through these lyrics, infusing them with evocative visual imagry. A vocal chameleon, Robert creates a unique vocal style for each song, somtimes warm and folksy, sometimes an operatic powerhouse.
Robert's current projects include il Troubadore - Indy's 16th Century Rock Band. Formed with cellist Jonathan Silpayamanant in 2004, the band has garnered notoriety around Indianapolis for their unique instrumentation (mandolin & cello), their offbeat covers of popular music from the 11th Century to the present, and their work with belly dancers, featuring original songs with strong middle-eastern folk influences. For more information, go to www.troubadore.com
The 7th cd in the RBS discography, Woody was largely recorded before il Troubadore formed. Cellist Jonathan Silpayamanant appears on the final track. Soprano Evelyn Johnson, also of Indianapolis, provides the high harmony on "I Dreamed I Touched Your Face."
As with many RBS cds, Woody contains an embedded webpage with lyrics and liner notes - which will autoload when the cd is put in your computer. The cd also, characteristically, shares a complete dissimilarity to each of his previous works. If you've listened to one RBS cd, you've listend to only one - they're all very different.
