Loud and crunchy pop rock with spiky, shimmering female vocals
11 MP3 Songs
POP: Power Pop, ROCK: Modern Rock
Details:
Tony nominee Alice Ripley reveals a glittering new facet to her multiple-act life with the release of OUTTASITE, a punchy pop rock CD by her band RIPLEY. Co-produced by Adam Lasus (Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Rothko), OUTTASITE features Ripley on vocals and guitar, Shannon Ford (formerly of the Danny Gatton band) on drums, and Christopher Schelling on keyboards.
Following the release of the band's self-titled EP in 2004, they went back into the (now) late great Fireproof Studios in Red Hook, Brooklyn to record these eleven new songs. The result retains the jangle and crunch of the five-song EP, but it is even more deeply layered and varied. And louder.
Known for her stage roles in the cult classic Side Show and the rock hits The Whoâs Tommy and The Rocky Horror Show, Ripley recently relocated to Los Angeles to write music full time. She notes, "Voicing a loud opinion is a creative luxury that is mostly off-limits to an actor." But it's a necessity if youâre going to make noise thatâs a potent mix of Iggy Pop and Marilyn Monroe.
The combination of wittily sardonic, rawly emotional lyrics, haunting melodies and killer licks keep the band tight but raucous, shimmering around the powerful wall of vocals that define the sound of RIPLEY.
