COUNTRY: Country Rock, ROCK: Rockabilly
Details:
In the 1980âs Rick Murray was the lead singer in a rockabilly band called âThe Tennessee Twoâ (an homage to the Johnny Cash band of Luther Perkins and Marshall Grant). Playing in nightclubs on the Pacific Coast just south of San Francisco, the group combined Rickâs Bob Dylanesque voice with hard-driving country rock. Rickâs lead guitarist, Jeff Cain, went on to establish Green Light Records (now evolved into www.greenlightcd.com) and Rick moved back east.
In 2001, Rick gave a fund-raising speech for a new IPO to a prospective group of investors in New York. After the presentation, he was introduced to a 75-year-old psychic at
a cocktail party. Without any small talk whatsoever, she asked him: âWhat are you doing? Why are you soliciting financial investors instead of pursuing your MUSIC? You know your real love is music!â
Rickâs speech had made NO MENTION whatsoever of music!
After returning to the San Francisco bay area two years later, Rick followed her advice and recorded a 13-song vocal-and-acoustic-guitar CD. While it featured his
unique voice well, it failed to score a record contract.
So Rick contacted Green Light Records, and it was decided that the best course of action was to record a 3-song demo for the major labels to hear. âStanding at the Crossroadsâ was submitted to Green Light and re-written. The result really kicked ass! Next came another re-write, a song called âSometimesâ that the Tennessee Two had performed back in the 1980âs. In developing this new version, layered in the
richness of antique electric Gretsch guitars from the 1950âs and 1960âs, the âsoundâ of the Rick Murray Band was born.
After listening to the playback, the 3-song demo CD suddenly became the start of a full-blown album. A stomping rocker called âHearts-in-Line" became the lead-off track
(and title of the album).. 9 months of writing strong original country rock and bluesy ballads had produced 12 songs totaling 37 minutes of music------37 minutes of music that you wonât forget for a long, long time. Enjoy!
