BIOGRAPHYROWN.DUDLEY BROWN: was born in Savannah-La-Mar, Westmoreland, on the beautiful,sunny, tropical island paradise Jamaica, to a School Teacher, David and Midwife, Adina Daley. Dudley was the youngest of 12 children, having five brothers and six sisters. He was a robust child full of energy and zest for life, and was liked for his warm and engaging disposition. Dudley left Jamaica before finishing Higher education and has since completed an honours degree in 1994.
Dudley spent 1970 working in Denmark and felt that this was a very prolific period of his musical growth. Dudley was nearing the end of a Distant-Learning Program of Composition and Arrangement from The Berklee College of Music, and he found himself amongst Saxophonist Dexter Gordon, Orchestral Conductor , and Professor, Bent Larson from the Danish Conservatoire of Music, two renowned musicians! Dexter Gordon: gave a critique on Dudleyâs technique and then shared some of his own views and techniques on improvisation.These influences had a profound impact on Dudleyâs musical conceptions, each in their own unique way. Professor Bent Larson purposely invited Dudley to recitals given by a series of conductors, which included himself, in order to expose Dudley to classical strings. From this grew Dudleyâs love of string arrangement.
It was Dudleyâs time with Professor Bent Larson that inspired him to go on to study String arrangement under the renowned Professor, Graham Elliott, while still studying the piano.
TEACHING
Dudley started a community music school (Peckham music Academy (positive mental attitude) that taught both music theory and practice as that also arranged performance experience for people who would not have gained access to Music College through conventional grading. One of his students, Byron Wallen, is now one of Englandâs leading Jazz Trumpet and Flugelhorn players.
INFLUENCES
Jazz: Oliver Nelson; Tadd Demaron; Benny Goldson; Dexter Gordon; James Moody; Wayne Shorter; Quincy Jones; Herbie Hancock; Keith Jarrett; Winton Marsalis; and many others
Classical: JS Bach; Ludwig Von Beethoven; Mozart; Bela Bartok;
String Recitals; Cinema / Film Scores; Live performances.
