ROCK: Classic Rock, FOLK: Folk Blues
Details:
Dusty Rhodes and the River Band are an anomaly in todayâs music landscape; difficult to classify, easy to like, and hard to forget. The band presents fun yet evocative storytelling through a revolving blend of musical styles and personality. Influenced by The Band, Yes, Os Mutantes, and various roots music, the young Anaheim sextet bring the tradition of âsong-focused songsâ into the new millennium.
The groupâs full-bodied, organic sound features three distinct vocalists, a classically trained fiddler, and a mad keyboard frontman, and has been described as uniquely soulful and melodic. Dusty Rhodes and the River Band is Dustin Apodaca, vocals, keys, accordion; Kyle Divine, vocals, guitar, harmonica; Allen Van Orman, bass; Andrea Babinski, violin, mandolin; Eric Chirco, drums; and Edson R. Choi, banjo, guitar, vocals.
A high-energy live show that features a wide range of instrumentation and experimentation, sets Dusty Rhodes apart from the average Orange County band. From Dustin's extravagant wardrobe and showmanship, to the shifting song styles from prog rock to traditional folk, to the ever-changing instrumentation throughout their set, Dusty Rhodes and the River Band ceaselessly entertain and surprise returning crowds.
The group has played relentlessly since its formation in the spring of 2002, converting just
about anybody; indie hipsters, traditional folk fans, and old time rockers into dedicated âDusty
Rhodiesâ. Adapting a do-it-yourself work ethic, the band has organized and executed 5 successful cross-country tours, in addition to numerous regional stints in the southwest.
Currently the band is working on completing their first full-length album, produced by Mars
Volta keyboardist Ikey âIsaiahâ Owens, due early 2007.
