Details:
DUTCH COUSINS got their start in the summer of 2003 in the lovely suburbs of Washington, DC. Singer/songwriter/guitarist Tom Karpf pieced together the band - a mix of party acquaintances and classified ads. They played their first show in early 2004 and continued gigging around the DC area. That summer they recorded a batch of songs intended for an EP in drummer Barry Blankenshipâs basement with engineer and friend of the band Scotty OâToole. Original guitarist Dan Hughes left the fold as that recording session was winding down. OâToole offered his guitar skills and the bandâs sound evolved into something a little more ROCK.
The EP never quite happened but rather turned into a full-length album. Some songs are included in their original recorded form, some are from later recording sessions at Chicken Coop studios in the rolling farmland of Howard County, MD, and many of the tracks feature the guitar work of all three guitarists that have passed through the Dutch Cousinsâ story. Bass and myspace provided by resident âEvilâ Isaac Weiser. The hard-won album, TRAVELING SONGS, was independently released in late 2006.
