Deriva's style of Indie Rock meshes hard rocking guitars with solid percussion and keyboard strokes. They are quoted as sounding like "Pink Floyd on speed."

â¦is a Spanish word meaning âto driftâ, or as one Spanish-to-English dictionary we referred to defined it, âa shipâs courseâ.
â¦is the aural equivalent of moonlight-flecked oceanscape as seen through the window of a moving car.
â¦wants to be your favorite band, and the soundtrack to your life.
Although all four members have pursued other musical projects, Deriva is the one they keep returning to. âIts music is specialâ, replied Peña, when asked why the project holds appeal to him over others. âWe went into it originally with no conceptions about what it should sound like or with any agendasâwe just wanted the music to take us on a journey, to a place and time. That decision gave us the freedom we needed to make this music. We are all very proud of it.â
The members of Deriva are, like most musicians, hesitant to categorize its sound or make comparisons to other bands. However, they will say that they believe it has something to offer listeners across the spectrum of rock music, as they draw from 60âs psychedelia, 70âs prog-rock, 80âs new wave and post-punk and 90âs indie and alt-rock. I asked Kiliveros about Derivaâs wide variety of influences: âRock ân Roll is a self-referential genre of music. It tends to re-invent itself about every ten years, but does so by borrowing or stealing from the past, and tarting it up for a new generation. We embrace that tradition.â
