The story of DRZHIVEGAS, the unheralded kings of the dance floor

In the fall of 1995, five musicians began rehearsals in a blighted duplex on the Southside of St. Louis. One 60 watt light bulb and an old Sears space heater were all the comforts this spread would provide.
In these dubious surroundings, this group of friends gathered regularly to fine-tune a proposed list of songs. With nothing but joyful â¨intentions, this group of friends began their whimsical adventure. What would unfurl in the years to follow exceeded all expectations - the ubiquitous presence, the unstoppable groove, hundreds of sold-out performances (not to mention the mob of devoted fans). This was an unintentional phenomenon.
Working as one of the most sought out dance party acts in the Midwest, this group of four young men have put in their time in setting the groove all over the country. Prior to the group's humble beginnings as a disco cover band, members of this band forged their â¨careers and experience in diverse paths of the musical spectrum. One was a major label MTV hair band cover boy, another was a world-touring, p-funk-a-teer, and the others were a pair of indie band road warriors.

Over 1,500 shows later, they have transcended the genre, but took with them the lessons learned from night after night of packing the dance floor.

Fast forward 10 years! 10 years? Bands donât stay together for 10 years! (That alone will tell you there is something unique about this group of musicians.) The core of this group led by frontman Frankie Muriel (vocals), Paul Chickey (drums), Cub Smith (bass) and Dee Dee 'Muggsâ James (guitar). Their only mission is to entertain and to pack that floor. They battled 10 years of tireless performances, 10 years of fighting demons, successes and failures that would break up tightest of groups.
DRZ fills out their many layers of sound on tour by transforming into a 10-piece band adding synthesizers (Charlie Brown), horns (Chris Deusinger, sax and Keith Moyer, trumpet), and background singers (Erminie Cannon and Marlys Brown)

In the summer of 2006, DRZHIVEGAS entered into the studio to begin the next chapter and launch the phenomenon to the next level. Fusing rock, "four on the floor" dance beats and easy as candy hooks, the songs were battle-tested on the dance floor and GET DOWN is the result.

A fusion of the type of music they play and they styles of music they love, GET DOWN is a powerful mix of anthemic club grooves, â¨guitars and bravado. GET DOWN is very much about the type of songs DRZHIVEGAS plays live. âLife on the dance floor is what we know. Rockinâ the party is our life 200 shows a year,â said lead singer Muriel.â

âItâs such a community out there. Everyone is a star - the voyeurs, the exhibitionistsâ¦the record has that energy to it. It reflects our shows and what is our experience â from the beats to the types of sounds we use and how we flow with the audience. It's very much about the interaction we have on the dance floor and the stories of the people in that crowd. That is this record. That is where the energy is born,â says Muriel.
