Details:
As a single, the CD Sunday Morning Sunshine offers double the musical pleasure. The 2006 remix of Dennis Dayâs classic Smooth Jazz song offers two distinctive musical tracks, fusing jazz elements with rhythm and blues sensibilities.

This remastered version of Dayâs original composition, first recorded on his 1990 debut album entitled For Only You, features one of todayâs outstanding jazz innovators, T.K. Blue, in a magical counterpoint performance with the late, legendary sax virtuoso, Art Porter, Jr.

The vocal rendition retains what Downbeat jazz critic Herb Boyd wrote in an Amsterdam News profile, describing Dayâs voice as âmelodious, with versatility, and possessing an easy, distinctive vocal style reminiscent of Brook Benton, Marvin Gaye, or the Platters great lead singer Tony Williams.â Of Sunday Morning Sunshine in particular, Boyd went on to say, âDay offers a voice full of aching vulnerability, embellished with an extended melismatic quality.â

Dayâs vocal arrangements set the perfect stage for the warm, lyrical stylings of T.K. Blue. Using chordal repetition, Blue establishes a memorable âhookâ in the first two choruses, framing a story of lovers enraptured in moments of peaceful tranquility, basking in the afterglow of love. The songâs narrative, when juxtaposed against the bluesy, harmonic rifts, segues perfectly into Art Porterâs energetic display of his superb improvisations, which continue to make him a perennial favorite in Smooth Jazz circles, even after his tragic, untimely death in the late 90âs.

This gem of a single dazzles brilliantly and charms the listener with uncommon warmth. It is sure to brighten our days for some time to come. Both versions will also become available on Dayâs new CD, Back in the Day, scheduled for release in 2007.
