SPOKEN WORD: With Music, SPOKEN WORD: Poetry
Details:
Latest spoken word signing to the Black Air Press Music label, Donielle Monique, brings a sensational and dramatic flair to the discerning underground label. With work containing a wide breadth of topics and voices, this debut album not only showcases her incredibly wiry storytelling style, but a strong voice and sense of place.
Donielle Monique was a member of the 2006 National Poetry Slam team from Columbus, Ohio's top open mic, the Writers' Block, coming out of the stiff competition the 2006 Grand Slam champion with a first place showing. Trained by nationally-recognized poet Scott Woods, her work puts her firmly in the "write-as-good-as-you-speak" tradition.
Her debut album - "Some Days I Am" - features music by BAPMusic founder Scott Woods, who personally wanted to work on this album instead of farming it out to one of his numerous artists. "We wanted the same things from this record: great poetry and great music, and I really know her work in and out, so I was the obvious choice out of the roster." Other BAPMusic artists make appearances as musicians on the record under Woods' production: Ambient Long, Gumbo DaVinci, and executive producer/underground sensation breath.
A great record from a great new poet with an old soul. If you like your poetry smart with heart, Donielle Monique is your new favorite poet.
