As one reviewer put it, "simply sweeping in its scope". A gathering of influences from the Fall, the Velvet Underground, and Pavementââjamming indie rock that crackles and pops.

Details:
Beginning in 1999, murder mystery solidified in 2005 with the addition of French drummer Jean-Phillipe Saulnier and bass player Luke Patton. A blend of influences from The Fall, Pavement, Sebadoh, and the Velvet Underground (from where the group got its name) form a sound creation that barrels through with impassioned delivery.

The bands roots lie in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, where in 1999 the group began as Rob Belprez (guitar), Bill Stuben (guitar), and Adam LeRoy (drums). The band recorded several tracks and performed at college parties, but by the time of mutual graduation in 2001, a mutual break-up occurred too.

The band soon reformed with Adam now on guitar and vocals, Sam Jones (guitar), Mike Lambie (bass), and Deb (drums). The bands new sound was shaped more heavily by classic rock groups and the blues.

After several practices the chemistry didn't click. While many new songs were written Sam and Deb left the group, somewhat amicably. Ben Bayles, who Mike and Adam recruited from an ad in a local paper, took over Deb's part on drums. Attempts to find a second guitarist failed and the group became a three piece.

The new line-up took offâplaying extensively throughout Detroit in the winter and summer of 2005. But the good times had to end. Benâoverworkedâand Mikeâmoving to Los Angelesâleft the band. In September of 2005, Mike was replaced by high school friend Luke Patton and Ben by French transplant Jean-Phillipe Saulnier. Both new members brought additional song writing talent and expanded the existing repertoire, creating a fuller, complete sound.

As the group began a more determined approach towards practicing and songwriting they began conversations with Robert Blum at DetroitSounds' Records. Their self-titled EP was released on DetroitSoundsâ in March of 2006
