Confessions is a tour de force by a major poet and composer operating at the height of his powers. The ten songs contained herein are set in the American musical melting pot of folk, blues, jazz and rock. Murray channels his inner monologue into a free verse prosody which invites the listener on a psychological journey into the deepest chasms of the mind. A memoir of coming of age in the late 20th century USA with a microscopic attention to the details of mood, memory, friendship, place and time. The arrangements are awash with a sea of guitars, horns, drums and dragon whistles. Gritty improvisations swirl around the voice which authoritatively declaims itself in cadence after cadence creating a trancelike soundscape that flows and ebbs.

Unlike anything previously released by Murray in the 2000's, perhaps Confessions represents a change in artistic direction. Reportedly Murrayâs next release will be a socio-political epic that is tentatively titled Baghdad City Limits.
