A bittersweet, midwestern album of equal parts acoustic guitar, mandolin and fiddle with a Telecaster occasionally thrown in to remind us it's the 21st century.
14 MP3 Songs
POP: Folky Pop, COUNTRY: Country Folk
Details:
Since their first gig on a front porch at a block party on Oregon Street in downtown Lafayette, Indiana a few years back, the Mercury City String Band has begun a slow rise and have now achieved a status that could only be described as "minimal." With the release of Hosmer and Ninth, the MCSB are looking to make a little dough and see if anybody's interested in their tunes.
Taking their call from such luminaries as Wilco, Clem Snide, Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, Hank Senior and Johnny Cash, The MCSB has composed a diverse battery of songs and performed them almost nowhere, occasionally showing up to open-mics or busking for free beer somewhere on Main Street. Their sound is down home, unapologetic and raw.
The members of the band evolve over time with the only consistent member being songwriter/vocalist/guitarist Sean Conrey. Other members have included Rob Davidson, who plays the guitar, harp and mandolin, master Old Time fiddler Edwin Layer, Drummer Brad Harner (who also plays a mean pizza tin), and bassist Zach Coles. Sarah Abramowitz is the femi-pipes on many tracks of Hosmer and Ninth and is an old friend of Sean's. No band members plan to quit their day job any time soon, but deeply appreciate anyone who will listen.
