For many, with the passing of time, childhood turns over and leaves no traces. But there are those who never lose that vitality; they journey thru life with an ineffable hope and expectation burning inside them. Meghan Pierce is one such person; embodying the zeal and authenticity of a child, while possessing a level of wisdom and insight that belies her age. These characteristics weave their way into every part of her life - from the person she is on and off the stage, to the very fibers of her songs and their lyrics.

With the release of her self-titled debut CD in May of 2005, Meghanâs music career was officially launched; but the journey of this artist began well before the album was even dreamed of â¦. âI can remember being three years old, sitting with my sister at the piano as she demonstrated what âthunderâ and ârainâ sounded like. You could say thatâs where it all began â that day at the piano. Music has always been a part of me.â Voice lessons, piano lessons, choral events and musicals were regular activities for the Pierce kids. All of them innately musical, they spent countless hours practicing and entertaining at recitals, church, and family gatherings.

When High School rolled around, it came with all of the challenges and chances inherent to such formative years. Meghan, while taking her grade 9 piano with the Royal Conservatory of Music, began to feel a stirring: âI had melodies and lyrics swimming around in my brain just dying to be translated into song. Somehow picking up the guitar just seemed like the most sensible thing for me to do.â So thatâs exactly what she did. Making the crossover from classical piano to acoustic guitar came naturally, and it wasnât long before the songs were spilling out. A friend recalls, âshe would sit alone by the piano with her guitar and a little portable tape recorder to sing the songs that God had given herâ¦.there was something about Meghanâs authenticity and purity of heart that rang true, even from the beginning.â

As High School years came to a close, the âwhat next?â question loomed daunting and ambiguous. Coming from a family of doctors, she half-assumed she would follow suit. While fighting to distinguish between the expectation she felt and the calling on her heart, she continued to prepare for a potential medical career; but her heart was not there â the time had come to leave all thoughts of medicine behind and pursue ministry definitively. After finishing high school, she left home for an 8 month Discipleship program. It was during this time that she seriously began to devote all her energy to songwriting and singing. âLooking back, I feel like God really used that year away from home to set the stage in my heart for the things he was about to do. He basically had 8 months of wide-open time to engrave his purposes and his heart on my own. Like always, he was beckoning me, calling me into hope that regardless of what I knew, there was still so much more to life, so much more to him. The restlessness he planted in me propelled me forward in a very motivated and purposeful way.â

Upon her return from the Discipleship school she enrolled in the University of Winnipegâs Bachelor of Arts program, where she became very involved in Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, an on-campus ministry, and assumed the position of worship coordinator there for one year. During that time, she also accepted the position of Worship Director at her Winnipeg church â a role she continues to occupy.

While still attending the university, she played all the local shows she could. Every spare moment was devoted to writing music. âI used to bring my journal to class and scrawl out ideas and musical notation.â All the hard work was soon to pay off: word of Meghan reached the ears of 2-time JUNO-award winning producer, Adrian Bradford, and the birth of her self-titled debut album (Avante Records) officially began. The creative talents of Adrian and fellow producer, Dave Miller, combined to fashion an album that showcases compelling lyrics, hooky melodies, and captivating vocals. At its heart, the album offers a glimpse into Meghanâs own journey; into the struggles, the victories, and into the passion coursing beneath it all. âI want to use music to inspire purpose in people.â She says. âI want the audience to find something relevant about my journey and about the songs that they can grasp... something that stirs them, that causes them to hunger after Jesusâ. And due to her unique ability to draw in an audience and communicate in an honest and accessible way, this vision is coming alive.
