Founded by Mr. Simon Chu in August 1998, the Calgary Chinese Oratorio Society (CCOS) was formed by a group of Christians and sacred music lovers from different Christian churches. The mission of the CCOS is to proclaim God and His love through the gift of music. Currently, the society has approximately 45 choir members. Over the years, CCOS has performed classical choral music from great composers like Handel, Haydn, Mozart, and Mendelssohn as well as contemporary anthems in Chinese and English. CCOS has held many concerts and served many Churches and Christian organizations in Calgary. In 1999, CCOS was invited by the Vancouver Oratorio Society to perform joint Christmas concerts in Vancouver. In 2004, over 30 CCOS members participated in a music mission trip to Hong Kong and China where CCOS held four concerts singing Handel's "Messiah" and John Peterson's "King of Kings" cantata. In 2008, 28 CCOS members participated in a music mission trip to Eastern Canada including Ottawa, Montreal, Kingston and Toronto holding 5 concerts together with the Ottawa Christian Chorale singing Mendelssohn's "Elijah" and John Peterson's "No Greater Love" cantata.
