Vocal Powerhouse is often used to describe the voice of Kendra Carr. She has worked with many in the recording industry spanning from Shirley Caesar to Michael McDonald, Darwin Hobbs to Michelle Williams. Her strong vocal aptitude has afforded her to work with some of the industryâs top producers -Tommy Sims, Asaph Ward, Mark Kibble and Roger Ryan. Now she steps from behind the scene, as she is established in her own right, with her first national release Unexpected Judah.

Unexpected Judah produced by Detroit newcomer Daniel Miree, is eclectic, its inviting and most of all its evangelistic. Unexpected Judah was birthed from Kendraâs prayer time three years ago when God challenged her to do something different, outside of regular worship service. From there, songs were given in dreams and were recorded.

Kendra: About 3 years ago I was praying for a CD title to start a CD with and was lead to read Genesis 29. In that particular chapter it talks about Leah and Jacob and their children. While reading this passage, it detailed how each child's name had a particular meaning and the fourth child name meant something completely opposite of the other children. Judah, meaning âpraiseâ, was the fourth child. Not only that, but in biblical numerology the number 4 means "create". After seeing all of this I stopped and said, "WOW that was unexpected for her to name the fourth child praise after all Leah had been through.â Then instantly the Holy Spirit said that's what I have to do, create praise in the times the enemy wants you defeated! Thatâs how God gave me the CD title Unexpected Judah.

Unexpected Judah, released by Commandment Entertainment, is an unexpected flavor of what most people may be used to hearing her sing about. Kendra pours her soul in perfect tone into the single âOnly Youâ. Kendraâs anointed voice brings healing and restoration on the stand out tracks "Yet I Will", in which she co-wrote with Miree, and "He'll Deliver". These tracks purposely encourage that praise is the only way through, but UNEXPECTED PRAISE not only brings you out, but it literally puts the devil where he belongs - under your feet!

Kendra: Worship is the unselfish act of being completely focused on God and allowing God to respond. I firmly believe that God has exposed me as a worship leader on a different platform, to minister to a new generation through the music God has given me. Like any other singer I like good music, but what makes me a little different is that even when singing, the preacher in me comes out every time. With this project, I want people to feel God's presence, His desire for us to be victorious and for all to receive new hope in Christ. My favorite song on this CD is âAnother Chanceâ. It reminds me of each and every time that God has renewed his mercy and extended his grace to us⦠which is mind blowing!




Psalmist and Minister are the two words that describe the call on Kendra Carrâs life. Words that equate to a sincere dedication and unwavering faith that direct her in all she does in the ordained assignment on her career and life. This became evident long ago when Kendra began singing in the youth choir at Greater Little Rock Church in Pensacola at the age of 3. She went on to participate in several state competitions which won her two awards with the State of Florida Excellence in Vocal Ability and Excellent Solo Performance. Kendra sang frequently at Alabamaâs Stillman College while attending school there and in 2000 recorded an independent album Yielded. God led Kendra and her family to Nashville, TN where, through her obedience and faithfulness, He favored her to become the Praise and Worship leader at Mt. Zion Baptist Church and Chief Psalmist to its pastor Bishop Joseph Warren Walker, III. While at Mt. Zion, which today has a congregational membership of more than 20,000, Kendra was a featured soloist on three CD compilations â The Dove Award nominated Praise in His Presence, Shout in the Spirit, Bishop Walker Presents Judah Generation and The Singing Bishops. Kendra is now the Overseer of Music and Worship Arts Ministry at The Zion Church in Jackson, TN, an apostolic plant of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Nashville, where Jerrell T. Beard Sr. serves as Pastor.

Many ministers of music and worship leaders today decide to record and commercially release a CD project which sometimes may incubate an inability to separate the ministry of music from the commercialization of artists. Kendra doesnât consider herself an artist because in doing so one can slowly take Godâs glory for self. âItâs not just about singing, but itâs about ministry,â Kendra emphasizes. âYou can expect healing and deliverance to take place when ministry goes forth!â Kendra is ever willing and ready to be used by God with one goal - that people are set free.
