Piano-and-drums-duo Jackamo takes you to the vivid music scene of New Orleans, adds a teacup of Rhythm ânâ Blues, a spoonful of Soul with lots of funky syncopation and mixes it together into a gumbo of musical styles.
12 MP3 Songs in this album (34:50) !
Related styles: Blues: New Orleans Blues, Jazz: New Orleans Jazz, Type: Vocal
People who are interested in Dr John Huey ’Piano’ Smith Professor Longhair should consider this download.
Details:
This recording brings you a variety of obscure N.O. R&B hits and originals. We kick off with My Key Donât Fit, by Dr. John, which he recorded in the early sixties for the AFO label. It fits perfectly with our vocal approach and, as you can hear, we had a lot of fun doing it.
Next song is an original that expresses the way you could handle delicate situations with the ones you love. Trouble Never Got Owner is an old Caribian expression saying nobody likes to take the blame in a fight.
Whirlaway is a riff-based twelve-bar instrumental from Allen Toussaintâs 1958 album âThe Wild Sounds of New Orleansâ. Itâs our tribute to both Mr. Toussaint and legendary pianist Professor Longhair.
Free, Single and Disengaged by Huey Smith is a song that makes us sound as if we were a five- piece band instead of two. Needless to say that this one gets an audience on their feet.
Iâm So Glad takes the gospel highway, singing the praise of Love.
Another Huey Smith song, High Blood Pressure deals with the same subject from a different angle, and always puts a smile on everybodyâs faces.
Junko Partner is a blues standard. It opens with a âsecond lineâ marching band walking down the street. When the band takes the corner the music fades away.
Connotations with the seedy sight of town we find in Femme Fatale, an instrumental
wich features the Philicorda organ.
With a tip-toe-light early fifties beat: Heebie Jeebie Song refers to all kinds of R&B hits from the fifties and late forties.
New Orleans is the home of funk. Let the Mardi Gras Indian chants and the second line groove of Gumbo Night take you over before theyâll put you under a spell.
Monkey on my back is the sound of a man fighting his demons with help of an accordion and a washboard.
Closing off with Jelly Roll Mortonâs Mamanita on a relaxed pace in honour of all the Piano Professors that contributed to the sound of the Crescent City.
