so here i amâ¦at the bat caveâ¦or Poddighe studiosâ¦getting ready to work on some more mixes with Andrea&Carlo Poddighe (the magic brothers!) i guess it all started with a gig about 10 years agoâ¦where Cek Franceschetti was driving the van.we hit it off instantly.a very cool guy who plays guitar & sings and knows about the bLues & rock & roLLâ¦(& just like a great bLues story..we ended up running out of gas at about midnight..and having to push the van back to hotelâ¦but none the less it was a very fun time) aAANyway about 5 yrs later i was playing a festival in Switzerland with my band and there was Cek rocking out with his band Cek DeLuxe.unfortunately we were running late to get to a different stage and i couldn't stay to hear their whole set..but what i heard sounded like reaL rock&roLL..then about 1 yr agoâ¦my friend (and one of my favorite guitarists) Valter "Nembo" Trentini was telling me how much he liked the Cek DeLuxe aLbum "Hanging Bags"â¦i went to to look up Cek on fbookâ¦there were a few songs on his page..i was completely blown away by what i heardâ¦not just GREAT rock&roLL music,singing&pLaying..but a killer SOUNDâ¦"Who is their PRODUCER??!?!"was all i could thinkâ¦it reminded me of old LPs that i grew up listening toâ¦so i kept researching..and found out that they recorded the record at Poddighe studios in Brescia..i noticed the drummers name: CarLo Poddigheâ¦i found his brother Andrea Poddighe on fbookâ¦i kept it all in mindâ¦one night my fantastica wife was asking me why i was so miserable..(sometimes i'm a miserable bastard..)and what we could do to get my band moving againâ¦(my band was in a bit of a slump..).we began talking about the possibility of making a new recordâ¦i realized that between 1 or 2 songs that i'd never properly recorded & the new material i'd been working on..& a few cLassics from our live show that i'd never gotten on tapeâ¦i had at least an album of materialâ¦maybe even a double album!!.o.kâ¦maybe it's better to just do an aLbumâ¦i got in touch with CarLoâ¦& paid him a visitâ¦not only was i blown away by how cool he was..but he knew every song,record,group,producer or type of music i mentioned..he didn't just know it he had the records all there in his studioâ¦from SLy&tHE FamiLy Stoneâ¦to KiSS,who were my favorite band when i was a kidâ¦even AEROSMiTH's early records..tHE BEATLEs,tHE STONEsâ¦HENDRiXâ¦he knew it all & he knew it wellâ¦even little backward "messages" that the Beatles put on their recordsâ¦things that i thought only me&my friends from High School knew aboutâ¦it was a lot like visiting an old friendâ¦aND their studio was very funky..and all analogâ¦2 inch tapeâ¦that cooL,oLd,warm, NOT digital soundâ¦my dream record!!!..
wellâ¦it was time to start rehearsing!!.what???.after all these years playing with Matteo&Stefano..we had rehearsed..maybe once??.otherwise it was just the stage..& sound checksâ¦a quick glance at a few chord changes during dinner before hitting the stageâ¦so it was also incredible to finaLLY hear what we sounded like!..this record has been such an incredible experienceâ¦mostly for the fact that this whole record..from the beginning to the end was & is built on pure Love..(yeah it might make some of you nauseous..)but it's trueâ¦my wife VaLentina..made this possibleâ¦none of this would have been if it weren't for her patience & understandingâ¦that's how the whole thing got startedâ¦i am without a doubt a truly lucky manâ¦.then the fact that after all these years Stefano&Matteo and me are no longer 3 musicians who get together and raise hell..but we are 3 friendsâ¦CiKALBROs!!!...and although i have been very lucky to have played some great music & share the stage with MANY incredible musiciansâ¦i have NEVER played such deep beautiful music with anyone as the music i have played with Stefano Castelli & Matteo Sodiniâ¦yes we've had some really sorry ass situations..we've played more than our share of bad gigs..and i know i've led those guys into some HORRIBLE situationsâ¦between cancelled gigsâ¦promoters who ripped us offâ¦the guy who ran off with the moneyâ¦getting rained outâ¦being left to wait out in the rain for hours before "they" finally decide to cancel our gigâ¦finding out that we have to share beds..(yikes..)..being told to turn down..(our most common request..)..even almost having to physically beat the pay out of "the guy",etcâ¦well it has been an honorâ¦.and it is again an honor and a pleasure to finally make a record with you guys!!!..tHANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..
then there is the magic of musicâ¦the madness..the glory&the tragedyâ¦being lead everywhere by musicâ¦every great thing (and many bad things) in my life has been and is in some way connected to or caused by musicâ¦my Mother&Father always listened to great music at home..all the scenes of my life like a movieâ¦with a sound trackâ¦from being the new kid at schoolâ¦to being in the car with My familyâ¦the music blasting away while we kicked each other's assesâ¦.and while we laughed and sang together along with so many great albumsâ¦to my Mother passing awayâ¦to me living aLone for many yearsâ¦to life at Bar Maccariâ¦to asking my wife to marry meâ¦to her saying "Si !!!"â¦to my Grandmother passing awayâ¦and even driving home on the CiSA ( a very beautifuL but treacherous highway between Toscana & Parma that usually had snow,ice & psychedelic wind storms waiting for me at around 1:0o am.. ) from the rehearsals for this recordâ¦now i'm listening to this record in the car with my wifeâ¦it continually blows my mindâ¦thank YOU MOM&DADâ¦thank you VaLeNtiNA..thank you GOD..tHANK YOU MUSiC.
