Interesting how this got recorded, The lyrics were discovered when one writer was talking with a salesman at a car dealership who reaches in his pocket and pulls out a sheet of paper and says, "Let me read you some lyrics I wrote ..." They exchanged phone numbers and later got together at a studio and worked it out. Many hours were put into the sound effects which I think does add a lot to the song, causing you to hear and visualize someone grabbing a guitar, out on the porch, sitting down and expressing what he is feeling with the rain and storm in the background.
