Shoot to Please. Like shoot to kill, but not really related⦠and quite the opposite in regards to intent. We hail from Denver, Colorado, or at least use it as a central location to meet and practice. We rehearse in âGrammaâs Garage.â We call it that because it is a garage that belongs to Gabeâs Grandmother⦠We also specialize in creative naming. Denver is where Grady (keys) makes his home but weâre all spread across the Front Range, like jelly on toast, ranging from Parker, where two of us (Jeff â Bass, vocals, Gabriel-Guitar, vocals) conveniently work at Lowes together, to Fort Collins, where our drummer (Jesse) lives.

Having just recorded our first EP, Apologies In Advance, we are vigorously recording our new record, balancing what funds we have carefully in hopes that it will see this new record through. We are promoting, practicing, and playing shows whenever we can fit them, while attending school, work, and sleeping in too late on the weekends after an evening out with McCormickâs and a jug of sunny D.

The Music. Loud but calming, simple yet complex, but good and getting better. Writing music is a passion of guitarist and vocalist Gabriel Kitzman (so are corndogs), who takes pride in not only in the song, but also in how the song came to be. The nature of the writing process determines the nature of the song. Following this idea gives us a good diverse repertoire of music ranging from progressive rock to pop rock and sounding similar to Paramore, Rise Against, The Spill Canvas, Taking Back Sunday, and 30 Seconds to Mars. After the outline of the song is arranged, it is brought to grammaâs garage (along with a couple boxes of Capri sun) where it is torn apart by the entire band and molded into a carefully thought out collection of parts, lyrics, and voicingâs that make the song sound like it was supposed to.

Realizing our dream to be rock stars is not all fun and games. This job requires a lot determination, self-motivation, and attention to detail in the music and business side of things. Thankfully Grady (keys) has experience in running a business, is currently attending CU Denver for business management, and is formerly a performance piano major in the College of Arts and Media at CU Denver (joined the band about 8 months ago⦠he had a good resume). Keeping everyone on key is the job left to Gabe, who is a vocal performance major in the College of Arts and Media at CU Denver (and is often scolded for comparing opera and jazz to contemporary pop music). Jeff is completely self-taught when it comes to vocals and the bass guitar, but as a manager at Loweâs and after school at CSU and Arapahoe Community College, he brings work ethic, motivating attitude, and managerial experience to the table (as well as groovy bass lines). Jesse (percussion) went to UNC for Graphic Design and has an excellent reputation as not only a drummer, but as an artist himself (he is also among of the 3 of drummers that arenât always late).

When listening to a new bandsâ music you hear âitâs alright,â or âit has a good beatâ more often than not, because we already know we have decent songs, we strive to provide something more to the listener. What happens behind the three and a half minute recording is so much more than bands are often given credit for. Making music together is a lot like a relationship (without the sex), you get along most of the time, you disagree on just about everything, but when youâre all jamming on the same song is when it all makes sense, hopefully that feeling is audible in the few minutes of recording that we argued about for 3 hours over text message while we weâre at work.

At the end of the day the music is all that matters and getting it out to as many ears as we can is our main goal, even if that means trying to talk our way out of another overdraft charge for an extra couple hours of recording time (true story). But as long as we have songs to sing we will be getting them out to peoplesâ ears, and if we have to, suffer all possible meanings of the term âstarving artist.â Our main goal is to take this opportunity and make it into something worth remembering, something we are proud of, and something the listener can hear and understand.
