From their beginning in the 1990âs, Second Nature has evolved from playing mostly covers tunes into what is now one of the areaâs most dynamic and creative acts.

âDiversity has truly been our underlying strengthâ¦â Says Ed Piedra, guitarist, vocalist & founding member of the band. âWe have two lead female and one male lead vocalist to choose from when deciding how to best perform. Itâs that strong vocal harmony that helps us maintain an original sound while drawing on our influences that keeps us simultaneously both fresh and classic.â

Starting with early weekend performances in the Western Springfield / Hartford Metro, Second Natureâs first demo tape was a free giveaway to fans and bar owners (1994âs Second Nature vs. Godzilla) that contained 4 covers and 6 originals. The band continues to perform live to this day as often as possible, maintaining their focus, energy and personal relationships. The band says of their internal dynamics âWe are more than just best of friends â we are a family.â

After a decade of working together, with a more mature and exclusive focus on originals, Second Nature released their much acclaimed second CD âInnocenz Loztâ in 2004.


This release has received critical recognition and praise for not only songwriting, but also its performances. The recorded package was named a finalist in the 2005 International Song of the Year contest for the month of October for the song âCyan Skyâ and was also a Suggested Artist in January 2006 by the Song of the Year Staff for their recorded performance of âSee You Againâ. Second Nature has also received an âHonoraryâ award by the 2005 Great American Songwriting Contest judges for the song âI Knew A Girlâ and have received five different honorable mentions in the 2005 BillBoard Magazine World Song Contest.


How would the band members describe the Second Nature sound?

âWe have a wonderful and fun pop rock sound with songs that will stick in your head, and pleasantly surprise you. The vocals are outstanding with raw aggression, but yet smooth, with three part harmonies reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac. The musicianship shines and overflows with fury and originality. The song structures are nothing short of professional.

The band consists of a drummer, bassist, lead guitarist, guitarist/lead male vocalist, and two female lead vocalists. The male-female-female lead vocal attack gives great diversity throughout the songs, not only with a solid variety on the lead solo vocals, but also a wonderful fullness with the harmonies in the total sound.

The two guitars give a great texture and diversity of sound as well with leads and rhythms ranging from soft and tasteful to brash and bold. The bass and drums provide a solid rhythm behind it all with amazingly creative bass lines and expert drum licks.

The songs give a contemporary interpretation to Beatle hooks with modern sounds and arrangements. The songs are warm and fresh with infectious hooks that will have you singing along for years.â

Second Nature has also been an invited Live performer on GCTVâs Homegrown Music Television, broadcast and distributed live throughout New England.

The band has also recently completed recording their third CD release, with to include live favorites âSomeone Elseâ, âLearning to Live Without Youâ, âSlipping Away From Meâ, and âNever Coming Backâ that have already received wide critical acclaim. We will begin end product manufacture soon and are planning a CD release party for summer 2010.
