It seems a century ago that I graduated from the Conservatory of Music with degrees in guitar performance, music theory, and composition. Over the years, I have done a good deal with the guitar performance part, but very little with theory and composition-that is, until the last 6 years. "A Path Through the Desert" is my latest collection of original compositions. Two works on this CD are my orchestral adaptations of existing melodies. "Halleujah" is based on the Leonard Cohen melody of the same name and The Canon In D is taken from Johann Pachelbel's famous work.
What genre is this music? Is this classical music? I suppose so, for wont of a better description, I am an American Composer. (I am classically trained and classical music is my love and that is pretty much the departure point for me.)
For all my composing, I use Finale 2011. This excellent program allows me input my music directly into the computer on staffs in the scores. When I complete a composition, I am then able to print clear, legible copies of the scores and parts. This CD is performed by a "virtual" orchestra. For the "performers" in my virtual Orchestra, I use Garritan Virtual Software Instruments, which are digital samples from actual recorded orchestral instruments and percussion. For recording, editing and production, I use Pro Tools 9.
