First and foremost, this is a rock band playing radio-friendly, hook-laden songs. Although the songs may change styles and moods - from heartland rock to power pop to acoustic ballads to blues-infused rock - they all remain centered around melodic, memorable songs. Songs that are sung with passion and played by a tight, energetic band that has been gigging for 10 years. Lyrically, this is 89 Mojo's strongest album to date. At times meaningful and heartfelt, and at others fun and witty, but all have a general theme of optimism and hope that the album's title of "Today!" suggests. The band also delivers a rollicking version of Will Hoge's "Let me be lonely", for good measure. This recording features a band that is experiencing a creative high while still having the time of their lives.
