Details:
Artists W/ Issues is a nom de guerre of songwriter and musician John Feodorov.
Recognized internationally for his work as a visual artist, Feodorov was a musician and songwriter long before actually venturing into the labyrinth of contemporary art. While rock superstardom remains elusive, music continues to be an equally important element in his creative life. Heavily influenced by such artists as The Who, The Kinks, David Bowie, Tom Waits, Roxy Music, XTC, Syd Barrett, Sergei Prokofiev and Kurt Weill, his songs are infused with strong and original melodic lines and intelligent thought-filled lyrics.
âSongs For Agnostics And The People Who Love Themâ, is his latest release and his first solo effort. After many false starts with bands over the years, John suddenly realized that he had all the instruments and equipment needed to record all by himself and so began work on a number of recently penned songs. With this new batch of catchy tunes that explore themes such as life after death, identity and existentialism, John returns to his first love--arty yet infectious pop/rock.
Born in Los Angeles of mixed Native and European American heritage, John Feodorov spent summers at his grandparentâs homestead in New Mexico. This time spent between the Navajo reservation and the suburbs of Whittier California continues to have an important influence on his work. His artwork often utilizes pop culture detritus, as well as sound and video, to create what he considers contemporary âsacredâ spaces that question ideas of spirituality, identity and place.
In 2001, Feodorov was featured in the first season of the PBS television series, âArt 21: Art for the 21st Centuryâ as well as in the companion book published by Harry N. Abrams. His work continues to be exhibited internationally and can be viewed at www.johnfeodorov.com.
The Smell of Night
She floats in like a memory, sheâs moving cautiously
The shag carpet parts before her feet, a breath dancing silently across the room
Time stands still like an effigy, tortured by sun and rain
This cheap hotel reeks of history; tobacco and beer stain the upholstery
The smell of night settles upon the room
Hovering, it lingers like a spent balloon.
Casting silhouettes against the wall
A shadow play of innocence before a fall
She saunters in like royalty, sheâs moving gracefully
The curtains wave as she passes by; sycophantic symbols of a long goodbye
Is she waltzing towards some destiny, or wandering aimlessly?
The room grows still in the fading night
the perfumed air is mingling with the morning light
The smell of night settles upon the room
Hovering, it lingers like a spent balloon.
Casting silhouettes against the wall
A shadow play of innocence before a fall
