Details:
makeoutmusic is a three-piece hardcore punk band from NY. Since their inception in 2002, they have come a long way from their humble beginnings, evolving a sound that channels west coast punk with an east coast hardness and comes off fresh and energized. With three releases and two U.S. tours under their belts, they emerge from the creation of their fourth relesase (âGet off my Soapbox,â due out August â06) with a new lineup: Justin Iorio of âYou and What Armyâ on guitar, former guitarist Olivier Charlas on bass, and Tyler Mahal on drums, and have been busy saturating the Tri-State area with shows and promotion.
makeoutmusic was formed with an ideal in mind: play hard, play fast, but also play good. Aching to bring back hardcore punk rock in an era where it seems to have either been slowed down, dumbed down, or popped out, they spent striving to be the tightest act around, spending up to 8 hours at a time locked in the basement, honing skills and writing songs. When their first E.P. (âthe Rise of Poop Cultureâ â Independent 2003) was released and they started playing nonstop in the Hudson Valley, the payoff came in the form of packed shows and great reviews, although being a young band there were doubts as to where they would go and whether they could progress. The next year, the youth of Northeast America became witness to a harder, faster, yet more capable and evolved makeoutmusic in the form of their first full-length: âInfidel.â Bringing about murmurs of âKid Dynamiteâ and âBigwig,â from reviewers and eliciting phrases such as âpure piss and vinegarâ, ârage fueled hardcore rompsâ, âscathing DIY punk rockâ, âAt first, it hurts like hell â, and âsticking my hand into a pound of ice cold ground beef to mix it with raw eggs and bread crumbs for my patented meat loaf. At first, it hurts like hell, yet, there's something pleasurable about feeling the raw meat and egg ooze between my fingers.â
This time around makeoutmusic is back with a six-song release â the results of eight months of constant writing and trashing and growing together as a unit. With fresh influences and new to draw from, âGet off my Soapboxâ is their tightest and most versatile release yet, but still keeps the hard edge that they have become known for.
âWith a name like makeoutmusic youâd expect some sweet poppunking emo-ish goodness but no, this threesome ditches out some of the fiercest, most unrelenting bunch of tracks I have heard in recent times.â
