"The greatest saxophonist on the planet!"
Product Description:
"The Spirit of Christmas" CD is a compilation of Dennis's beautiful new arrangements of traditional Christmas favorites including one original song. Dennis is considered by some to be one of the top saxophone players in the world. Four songs on the CD are sax instrumentals: "It Came Upon A Midnight Clear", "Oh Little Town Of Bethlehem", "Silent Night and Go Tell It On The Mountain". "What Child Is This" is primarily a flute instrumental. "Angels We Have Heard on High" is an outstanding multi-instrument arrangement including flute and vocals. "The First Noel" is performed on the guitar. The Schubert and Bach/Gounod versions of "Ave Maria" are vocals. The one original song on the CD is entitled "What God Did For Us" and is an instrumental performed on the flute. This inspirational CD is great for a relaxing, uplifting listening experience for the holidays.
About the Artist
Dennis Marcellino is a former member of Sly & The Family Stone, The Elvin Bishop Group, Rubicon, The Electric Flag and The Tokens (the band who once had the hit "The Lion Sleeps Tonight"). With these groups he recorded 10 albums. As a solo artist he had the #1 selling cassette in the Northwest in 1992 & 1993 ("Christmas"); a 1994 CD release "Daddy's Home" (a family-values friendly CD including Dennis' version of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight"); a 1999 release called "New Beginning" (a spiritual CD that focuses on the feeling of beauty); and a 2001 release called "Tenderly" (a sax/guitar duo jazz CD with Mark Stefani that received a five star review from Jazzscene Magazine). Besides being a member of the above groups, over the years he's recorded and toured as a musician/vocalist with Sha Na Na, Rare Earth, 3 Dog Night, Graham Central Station, among others. He has also been a special guest star on many television shows, including The Tracey Ullman Show, American Bandstand, Midnight Special and Merv Griffin. He scored and performed the music for a number of movies, and sang the lead and played sax on two songs in "Sweet Bird Of Youth", starring Elizabeth Taylor and Mark Harmon. "if There's a better sax player than Dennis Marcellino in the world, I haven't heard him." Carter Knox, Fred Meyer Corp. (the #1 retail music outlet on the west coast)
