BIOGRAPHY
Major black comes to us from the roots of the Blues - the Mississippi delta. Switching from bass to guitar in high school, he performed with local gospel and soul groups before and during his completion of the Bachelor of Music Education program at Jackson State University, Jackson Mississippi. At Jackson State, he majored on the double bass, played alto saxophone in the famed âsonic Boom of the Southâ marching band and began his recording experience at Ross Sound Studios.
Major relocated to Los Angeles in the summer of 1979 and soon joined the Legendary INK SPOTS, playing guitar and singing baritone and shared the stage with many of the great classic artists of our time. He eventually became musical director. While freelancing as a guitarist/singer/songwriter, one of his personal highlights was performing with renowned funk bassist Louis Johnson of the BROTHERS JOHNSON.
A multi-instrumentalist, Majorâs musical interests are as diverse as performing with rocker HAZEL OâCONNOR to studying and performing ancient village chants from India. As a songwriter, his music has had European success and been used in television. A five year turn with the classic 70âs R & B band ROSE ROYCE included extensive domestic and international travel. Major has also performed with Legendary Queen of Soul ARETHA FRANKLIN and presently tours with MARILYN McCOO and BILLY DAVIS, JR. He is now promoting a new CD of original songs in the style of Santana and Earth Wind & Fire.
