Maggie Khiane

Fresh, accessible, contemporary, uplifting and radio-friendly, these are the words used to describe new artist Maggie Khiane. Her debut album, Out to the World, is a fabulous blend of pop, rock, soul and dance tunes. With overtones of Sinead OâConnor and Dolores OâRiordan, Maggie is an artist with universal appeal.

Produced by Wayne Sheehy, Out to the World represents some of Irelandâs premier talent with artists such as Rob Malone on bass (David Gray), Conor Brady on guitar (the corrs) and Bill Blackmore on Flugel Horn. The album was recorded in Grouse Lodge studios in 2005,

Originally from Dublin, Maggie started singing on the Dublin circuit in the mid-1990s doing gigs in local venues with musicians such as Martin Black of the Black family. After the birth of her daughter she began writing her own material, moving on to work with Donal Lunny, who produced her first single, Special. Joining forces with Andy McCluskey of Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark she was vocalist on his album Universal. Maggie also featured on Noel Brazilâs album, The Land of Love. Previous single Luna was well received by Mojo Magazine, referring to âher breathy voice sprinkling moondust over the musical arrangementsâ.

Out to the World is an eclectic album, with contemporary upbeat tracks such as Happy Day and Better Than Better. Loving You, Sweet Surrender and Save the Day are more soulful tracks, and the album winds down with Johnny and Red Candle - slow, melodic arrangements with a melancholic late-night feel.

On stage Maggie is as comfortable singing unaccompanied â known for her stunning opening capellos â to low key acoustic and full band performances.

Maggie is constantly writing new material and regularly escapes to the wilds of Donegal to compose. She is now working with new artists on a second album.
