Mantis is a seven piece hip-hop, pop, culture clash ensemble. Comprised of five souls from the city of Oakland, Mantis is a musical menagerie of styles, cultures and influences. Mantis plays various local shows and has opened for such musicians af Afroman. They began their musical escapade in 2004, rocking the eastern portion of the S.F. Bay Area in a drop' hoppin' beat fashion, an now hope to broaden their exposure. Their music is diverse enough for many ears, but is focused for those who appreciate Poppy music without a compromise of musicality and diversity; just give it a listen... or check out www.myspace.com/mantisband
Dear all,
My band, Mantis, is a popular rock-rhythm & blues-- thats R&R&B for all you haters-- based in Oakland, California. The seven of us have been playing together for three years and have done about a dozen shows around the bay area. We've played with Afroman, Asteroid B-612, and Starfist, and we just finished our new Calling Card demo. We hope it will help us get heard on a broader scale. Mantis is comprised of five dudes, a female bassist, and a woman singer. We're not like one of those bands where every guy is the exact same, a la "Good Charlotte" or "Limp Bizkit" or some other crap band like that. I'd almost go as far as to say that we are six character actors that can all play music.
My drummer, Yæïr HeßeR is the metrosexual, (great looking), eurotrash clubber. My guitarist Jason is the classic axe-wielding, motorcycle riding rocker. My keyboard player, Greg, is the clean cut Christian boy whose love for music is only surpassed by his love for Asian girls. My singer, Lily, is the sultry and sexy eye candy-- mmmmmm... eye candy. As for the other chick, my bassist Lyzi is the crazy punk chick who was that girl who beat up the boys when she was little, and still sometimes threatens it. Mark is our resident rapper who brings a sprinkle of thug appeal and a knowledge of how to spit ice cold lyrics. As for myself-- I'd just like to think that I bring the group some class where it is needed and a little sleaze and swanky attitude. We're gonna be around the bay doing shows for a while because every guy needs a steady diet of sweaty girls. Keep it real. Listen and enjoy. Check out our site for more info and pics.
