"There and Back shines as a bright star in the world of local artistâs albums. Combining expressive lyrics with fine tuned vocals and instrumental accompaniment, Mangione hits the nail on the head with this highly polished , affordable CD."
EC Review, Milwaukee, WI
Recently graduated from college and knowing he wasn't built for the 9-5, Mike said no thanks to his father's steady warehouse job, packed up his dog and his guitars, and hit the road performing music. Mike Mangione is a singer songwriter from Chicago with music running through his veins, almost literally. Mike plays music around the country spreading his music to anyone and everyone.
Mike began playing drums at the young age of seven and eventually taught himself guitar by the time he was 13 (you can hear him playing both on his new album "There and Back"). Being left-handed he did what felt natural and picked up a right handed guitar, turned it upside down and started playing. With his "Strong, desperate voice and enthralling, passionate live show",
Mike has been fronting bands since his junior high school days. Now, many years later as a "semi-mature" adult, you can catch Mike on the road either solo or with his backing band, The Left Hand Band.
Mike's style is "reminiscent of fellow contemporaries Ryan Adams, Jeff Tweedy and the late Jeff Buckley" Pointblank DM). His ability to play and write a variety of songs ranging from folk picking tunes, ballad love songs, country storytelling, and acoustic rock, reveal his diverse influences and showcase his musical abilities. Mike recently won the "People's Choice Award" at the 2005 gojangle.com/abbey pub battle of the bands. In the year
2004 alone, he booked, promoted and performed over 200 shows, crossing the country 5 separate times.
He has played from Seattle to Atlanta, Los Angeles to New York and countless famous and forgotten towns in between. In 2002, Mike performed in the Aran Islands Ireland and in the summer 2005 was invited to perform at the 2005 World Youth Day in Cologne Germany. He has played in venues large and small
ranging from coffeehouses, bars, clubs, theaters, grass fields and parking lots, for audiences of up to 800 people.
Mike recently released his second full length CD "There and Back" which he and his brother Tom recorded during the course of 2004 in Los Angeles. Mike and Tom performed all the instrumentation on the album. There and Back was the CMJ Top 200 Adds #16 on 12/6/05! He has since continued to tour and has opened for such performers as Jamie Cullum, Brian Vander Ark of The Verve Pipe and Paris Delane of Sonia Dada.
