Refining a sound is never something that is easily accomplished overnight. In 2004, the reshaping of the band Maskil began to take place. Revising the writing style and placing new emphasis on the shared lead vocals of Aaron Everitt and Anna Grohn Everitt, have paid mighty dividends in the refined and thoughtful sound of the band Maskil.

Relying as usual on the steady and tasteful playing of the Borley Brothers, Ben (Bass & Pedal Steel Guitar) and Andrew (Drums) this latest album provides a true âbandâ sound. In the past the Maskil product was largely the result of the songwriting and singing of front man Aaron Everitt, however in this latest rendition, all notions of how a song was created was put aside and the band began to dedicate time to writing and composing. Lyrics were supplied by all band members, chord progressions were honed and refined by the entire band, and the new instrumentation placed more emphasis on the centerpiece of the Rhodes piano and âsurf â styleâ electric guitar.

Surprisingly pleasing and thoroughly deep in arrangement and composition, the latest album from Maskil, while only an EP is a creative and beautiful vision of what the band has to offer. Skilled musicianship and the organic nature of being recorded in the house where the music was conceived and created provide a relaxed and palatable music experience. Take the time to listen twice; it is truly music for the senses.
