We see the world thru tainted eyes, not knowing how much we really have.
Thatâs the main focus of Dave Matelâs Debut album â Long Nightâ and he drives that point home right from track one with â Rebornâ. Two years of writing and recording went into this album with Dave being the sole contributor, working long hours to bring his vision to life.
Daveâs story begins in Cleveland, OH where he began his musical training at age
Four at the corner music store. Then at six he continued his education at the Cleveland Institute of Music studying Classical piano and music theory. His dad being an entertainer himself brought Dave into his band playing weddings and various special engagements. The Institute gave Dave a full Scholarship when he was nine and Dave himself began writing at age eleven.
School was a struggle for Dave, not academically but socially. â I was never
Joe Social so I kind of always kept to myself.â He learned a valuable lesson about being
a musician, â all of a sudden people wanted to talk to me, hang out, that sort of thing.â
â I never saw it (my music) as anything special, it was just who I was.â
Dave went on the road at 19 playing lounges and various shows until finally
ending up in Las Vegas in 1993. He played the Casino circuit for quite sometime
Doing whatever the gig called for. âSometimes it was country, oldies, R&B straight
variety, whatever it was I did it.â
Dave stopped playing in 1998, â I was just burned out on it, Iâm not complaining
because the Casinoâs fed me for many years, but you do get tired of it.â In 1999 a terrible
tragedy occurred with the death of Daveâs brother-in-law Tod. â You never make sense of that kind of thing, but it does change your perspective greatly. I suddenly realized I
need to write, I want to write and I want to get my music to others.â
For the last 6 years Dave has played some small original clubs, built his own studio,
recorded, and did a lot of soul searching. In finding himself he was able to put his thoughts down more clearly and truly be centered.
â With this album I found my groove, and I hope people relate, and truly enjoy the music.â
Dave is planning a tour thru the midwest late October 2006.
