Dear Tita Ellie,

How are you? I hope you're well.

I've learned a lot this year because of you.

It Won't Be Long. Did I ever tell you how it started? Well, it's probably the first and last "truly personal" project I'll ever put out. Roughly a two year-old pet of mine, It Won't Be Long started out as a collection of Songs About Friends. Songs I'd written here and there for various gifts and whatnot. After my "Kodak-worthy" break-up, I had to change the name of this project. Songs About People seemed appropriate. Shortly after, I wrote a song for a friend who was moving. "It Won't Be Long" is a song for my friend, Maryam. I never told you that. Little did I know that it would mean so much more to me in the months to come. I've learned that if there's one thing we do well as human beings, it's that we expect, and anticipate with passion. We paint images in our heads of the people near to us. Pictures of actions they should take, of the people they should be, of the relationships we want to hold with them. This was my Summer last year.

Do you remember in the middle of August last year I was sitting at the train station, waiting to pick you up? You walked into the car and we drove off. My phone shuffled to "It Won't Be Long" and you approved. "I like this, he sounds like you." After explaining that it was me and that I was writing an album, you replied "I can't wait to hear it." I didn't think anything of the situation at the time but on September 1st, 2010, you were suddenly taken from us in a drunk driving accident and our last moment together in the car suddenly became one of the most important moments in my life.

I miss you so much. I save some food for you every time I eat. I hope they feed you where you are, but one can't be too sure.

I've learned a lot this year. I've learned that friendships will dissolve, significant others will transition into insignificance, and generally speaking, people will let me down. But that's okay. While we can expect this and that of one another, the only thing we are promised is that one day, that other person will not be here. After playing It Won't Be Long at your service, I decided this would be a more appropriate title for the project. These songs are about people. These songs are about the here, the then and the when. But, more importantly, this album is about transition and finality.

Because of you I truly understand my own words "it won't be long before it's too late to say goodbye", so I figure, why not spend the time in-between saying hello?

I'm sorry I don't have a song for you, Tita Ellie, but you can have my first album. You deserve it more than I. I hope it finds you well.

I found it fitting to officially release the album on September 1, 2011.
