Voltaire's "New Wave" side project, The Oddz, was an homage to the bands he grew up listening to in the 80's (Duran Duran, Adam and the Ants, The Psychedelic Furs, etc). Voltaire plans to someday finish the full length Oddz album and release it.

Details:
Voltaire was a teenager in the 80s, so it comes as no surprise that he is a big fan of New Wave. His favorite bands growing up were Duran Duran, Adam and the Ants, The Psychedelic Furs and the like. Several years ago when The Killers, Bloc Party and The Bravery hit the scene, Voltaire found himself listening to the radio for the first time in 20 years. "They were finally playing the kind of music I loved growing up, but by new bands," says Voltaire. Having made a career making anachronistic, acoustic music for years, Voltaire decided to start a side project and try his hand at writing the kinds of songs he grew up loving. The result was The Oddz. The band released one song called "Come Sweet Death" for a compilation album by Dancing Ferret Discs called "Where's Neil When You Need Him". That CD was a collection of songs inspired by the work of writer, Neil Gaiman (that song will be added here in the very near future!). The song was about his character "Death" from the Sandman graphic novel series. Next, the band released this maxi single for the song "SELLOUT (The Stupidest Song on the Radio)" containing that track as well as "Girlfriend", a demo of "The Medicated Girls Brigade" and a couple of other acoustic versions. The Oddz eventually disbanded before finishing a full length CD. Says Voltaire, "Unfortunately, I had taken on more than I could do, really. I was recording the album Ooky Spooky for Projekt records, writing a book for Weiser Books, writing and drawing "Deady: Big in Japan" and designing a line of toys, and I was falling behind on all fronts and letting a lot of people down. Sadly, I just ran out of time for this labor of love and had to put it on the back burner." Voltaire hopes to some day get back to finishing The Oddz full length CD. In the meantime you can enjoy SELLOUT, the maxi single!
