FOLK: Modern Folk, COUNTRY: Country Pop
Details:
Out of the wilderness that is Tasmania, comes a new voice, that of singer-songwriter Mac Lauren. A strong 'roots'n all' sound, a bit folk, a bit blues, a bit alt-country but above all unique, memorable and Australian. If you like your music with catchy melodies, thought provoking lyrics on life and love and a voice that resonates, Mac's debut album 'Crash Landing on Venus" is a CD for you.
Introducing
Mac Lauren is a singer/songwriter from Hobart Tasmania. Fiercely independent, he presents a view of the world that is gentle, where love is paramount and truth is essential.
History
Mac left school at 15 so he could learn a trade and buy a motorbike, both prerequisites to life on the road, exploring the wide expanse of Australia and beyond. After discovering that home was really where the heart lay, he returned to the island state of rugged wilderness and a history, his history of pioneers, of light-house builders searching for paradise. Along the way he has worked in Antarctica, designed and built green power units for use in remote places and run an electrical contracting business. Passionate for alternative energy he has also designed and built passive-solar homes.
Heâs been writing songs since the age of around 13, but only now has he reached a place where he considers his music is ready for public consumption; that the lessons learned are ready to share and that his lone voice might offer something of value to someone else. Even if only at the level of simply enjoying listening to music.
New Music
Crash Landing On Venus his first CD release explores a range of human emotions and relationships. The music is a strong ârootsâ n allâ sound, a bit folk, a bit blues/funk, a bit altâcountry but above all unique and memorable. The lyrics are worthy of hours of pondering and melodies are peppered with unabashed hooks that permeate the brain.
The title track âOn Venusâ is a smooth number, with a driving bassâline and laid back vocals while âatmosphericâ would describe âRaise our facesâ, and the closing track âILUâ.
âAfterglowâ is a song about the town Mac grew up in and the changes that have taken place since Macâs childhood.
Stripped back vocal and guitar arrangements feature in the songs âLawlessâ, âEmergencyâ, âDouble dice or dieâ, âPool of lightâ and âIf you canâ, with sensitive takes on the human condition .
âEmotion blowsâ delivers some edgy blues in 5/4, until âWe can beâ lands like a UFO in the middle of this eclectic collection of tunes as an entity unlike its album matesâ¦
Meanwhile a country flavor infuses âPenny For Your Thoughtsâ, âWho Calls the Tuneâ and âUpon our Earthâ to round out the influences.
