Details:
Being a kid can be scary. It is a big world out there and night is the worst. How do you let your children know that everything will be all right? Good bedtime songs that make a kid feel safe and warm can help a lot.
I've been a performing songwriter for over 35 years. When my children and, later, grandchildren were born, I tried to find some suitable nighttime music. But all of it was either new-age, wind chime music or else choruses that sounded like chipmunks. None of it seemed right. So I began making stuff up every night. I sang many little songs and tried different methods to get our restless kids to relax and fall asleep.
After I wrote some of these down, my wife suggested I record a few. I procrastinated until my older daughter moved out of state and wanted some songs for her kids (OUR grandchildren!). This album is the result. It is mostly vocal and soft guitar with minimal overdubbing for harmonies, etc. My experience has shown that hushed, almost whispered vocals work best at bedtime. Descriptive lyrics with word pictures occupy their little minds and allow them to forget about what is going on around them.
The local response to this album here in New Mexico has been both wonderful and humbling. This CD was made out of love for my children and grandchildren, not to sell a bazillion copies. Its purpose is to help just one more kid to fall asleep. Other professional musicians that I respect recommended that I try making it available on CDBaby and make it easy for parents everywhere to enjoy. It is priced low enough so hopefully many more children get to hear it.
These songs have safe, secure, happy images with positive messages. I believe in God and prayer . This is not a praise album. Rather, each song contains Christian values, such as family, God, prayer, and trust. These themes are integrated into everyday activities, and expressed from the kidsâ point of view.
My songs have been recorded often and I have received awards, money, prestige and praise for my songs. But if all I do is help kids feel safe and fall asleep, then what could be better?
Thank you. Roger
p.s. The album art is a photograph of a mural in a church nursery. The artist is a talented New Mexico landscape artist named Terry Norcross. He has given his full blessing to put it on this CD. Thanks Lyrics follow

All The Way Home
The motor in the car goes zoom, zoom, zoom.
Daddy is saying that weâll be home soon.
Then Iâll be in bed in my very own room.
All the way, all the way, all the way... Home.
Thereâs snow in the fields that we drive by.
It sure does sparkle in the cold moonlight.
Put my nose on the window, but itâs warm inside.
All the way, all the way, all the way... Home.
Thereâs a warm kind of glow from the radio.
Mom and Dad sing with every song they know.
Try to open my eyes, but they stay close.
All the way, all the way, all the way... Home.
I think my dad is carrying me.
But itâs hard to tell, because Iâm asleep.
Now Iâm in my bed, pray my soul to keep.
All the way, all the way, all the way... Home.
Peek-A-Boo-Boo-Boo
Iâve brushed my teeth... Iâve combed my hair.
Iâve crawled into bed... Iâve said a prayer.
I cover my head with pretty pink sheets.
Peek-a-boo, Peek-a-boo, Peek-a-boo.
Chorus: Peek-a-boo-boo-boo... thatâs what we play.
Peek-a-boo-boo-boo... each and every day.
Peek-a-boo-boo-boo... Is what we say
Peek-a-boo, Peek-a-boo, Peek-a-boo.
Pull the covers up, you canât see me.
I pull them down fast and say, âWhoopie!â
Then Iâll do it again, fun for you and me.
Peek-a-boo, Peek-a-boo, Peek-a-boo.
Repeat Chorus.
When Iâm in bed... Iâm getting tucked in.
We play one more game... before the day can end.
Pull the covers up... You know thatâs when.
Peek-a-boo, Peek-a-boo, Peek-a-boo.
Repeat Chorus.
I know itâs a game... donât tell my Mom.
When I hide my eyes... She thinks Iâm gone.
She seems so happy... I was there all along.
Peek-a-boo, Peek-a-boo, Peek-a-boo.
Repeat Chorus.
Godâs Love
Rose- buds... Flowers.
Min-utes... Hours
White clouds... May showers.
Godâs Love... Godâs love... Godâs love... wonât change.
Pup-pies... big dogs.
Tad-poles... green frogs.
Pine trees... Long logs
Godâs Love... Godâs love... Godâs love... wonât change.
Dark-ness... Sun-shine.
Runny nose... Feels fine.
Blue jeans... Cut-offs.
Small colt... Gray Hoss.
Godâs Love... Godâs love... Godâs love... wonât change.
Small boys... old men
Girl Scouts... Wo-men.
Par-ents... Children.
Godâs Love... Godâs love... Godâs love... wonât change.
In The Cradle Of God
In the cradle of God, I lie down.
In the cradle of God, I pray.
In the cradle of God, I close my eyes.
And sleep the night away.
Chorus: In the cradle of God, warmed by his love.
Held by His strong embrace.
I will sleep safe, in the morning I wake.
Awake in the cradle of God.
In the cradle of God, I will rest.
In the cradle of God, I sleep
In the cradle of God, itâs the best
The best place for me to be.
Repeat Chorus.
In the cradle of God, I will wake
In the cradle of God, I rise
In the cradle of God, I will make
Praises to God on high.
Repeat Chorus.
I Wish
I wish I were a cowboy, but Iâm not.
I wish I were a fireman, but Iâm not.
I wish I were a circus clown, a sailor, an astronaut.
I wish I were, but Iâm not.
I wish I could drive a car, but I canât.
I wish I could cross the street, but I canât .
I wish I could paint a house, ride a horse, or pitch a tent.
I wish I could, but I canât.
I wish my Lord would love me, and he does.
I wish He would have an angel above me, and he does.
I wish He would make a home, up in heaven, where He was.
I wish he would, and he does.
God Bless Me
Your head is nodding, old sleepy head.
Say good-night, its time for bed.
Maybe a story will be read,
Its been a busy day.
Your face is washed, your teeth are brushed.
Lights turned down, your pillowâs fluffed.
Jesus loves you, Oh so much.
And you begin to pray.
Chorus: God bless the birds in the sky
God bless my friends who cry.
God bless my family.
God bless me!
Get tucked in, pull your blanket up.
A drink of water from your little cup.
Open your arms, get a great big hug.
Its been a busy day.
Then you close your eyes, you yawn real deep.
Pretty soon youâll be asleep.
But before you start to dream,
You begin to pray.
Repeat Chorus 2 times and end.
Tomorrow
Tomorrow... You get to play with all your friends.
Tomorrow... Blow some bubbles in the wind.
Tonight... Angels watch will keep.
Tonight... Its time to fall asleep.
Tomorrow...
Tomorrow... You get to climb a tree.
Tomorrow... High up among the leaves.
Tonight... Hold your teddy bear
Tonight... Got all your family there.
Tomorrow...
Tomorrow... You can sing a silly song
Tomorrow... Laugh out loud all day long.
Tonight... Youâre all safe and warm
Tonight... God protects you from all harm.
Tomorrow...
Tomorrow... Get to drink some lemonade
Tomorrow... Enjoy all that God has made
Tonight... Know that Jesus loves you.
Tonight... Know that I love you, too
Tomorrow... Tomorrow... Tomorrow...
My Eyes
My eyes are slowly closing.
My eyes beside my nose.
Sleep, Iâm sure is coming.
My eyes tells me thatâs so.
My eyes... My eyes...
My eyes see smiling faces.
My eyes see light turned low.
My eyes see Mommy praying.
My eyes tell me thatâs so.
My eyes... My eyes...
My eyes can see the morning.
Oh, where did the night go?
The dark skies have turned to dawning.
My eyes tell me thatâs so.
My eyes... My eyes... My eyes.
When Today Is Done
When today is done... glass of water will be drunk.
bedtime song is sung
get a great big hug
When today is done.
When today is done... close your sleepy eyes
moon race across the sky
crickets sing lullabies
When today is done.
When today is done... pray for a good nights rest
Jesus loves you best
sun sinks in the west
When today is done.
When today is done... God will keep you safe
in your dreams youâll play
sleepâs one wink away.
When today is done.
