From the early morning in the African Savannah when the wildlife slowly awakens, to a roaring wildfire fuelling their stampede. The rage will stop only when a merciful rain puts out the fire. Wildfire captures the struggle between beauty and cruelty.
Intermezzo was a present from the good friend Helmuth, while on tour in Germany, âI was imagining a percussion virtuoso with a fantastic set-upâ; tour which ended with a fantastic banquet including Helmuthâs rare wines and the beloved and mourned company of Horatiu Radulescu. The Intermezzoâs texture soon revealed to be impossible for a solo, so I recorded the âleft-handâ alone, to then introduce all the wonderful effects, typical of Flammerâs style, such as gliss, finger techniques and wondrous objects.
Somarimbalo is the 7th chapter of Thomas Simakuâs Soliloquy. âWith each piece, the soloistic idea is presented in a different instrumental canvas and is elaborated according to the expressive qualities and the technical potentiality of each instrumentâ. It has been a great pleasure for me to premiere his piece in Trieste â09 and to be with him on stage as he was describing the performance to a cheering audience.
Medicean Stars was the name ascribed by Galileo to what later turned out to be the four larger moons orbiting Jupiter. Several of Galileoâs sketches were plotted onto manuscript paper, to devise a clear structure, contrasting three tuned instrument with the many sounds of cymbals, toms and tam-tams. It was a magical evening in Padova when we were pleased to premiere Benâs work, prepared with carefully selected instruments and mallets of our own invention.
Ascension appeared on our previous CD in EBâs arrangement for percussion. In August â09 we had the wonderful opportunity to record a whole session with the fantastic Gamelan set at York University and we took it!

The Brake Drum Percussion was founded in 1983 by percussionist M°Pietro Bertelli who, through intense research and collaboration with composers and musicians, managed to create an ensemble able to promote and play the Contemporary Music Repertory for percussion instruments. So far, the variable line-up of twelve percussionists and over 150 instruments, has dealt with pieces by Cage, Xenakis, Nono, Radulescu, Donatoni, Scelsi, Reich, Riley, Obst, Nishimura, Holten, Flammer, Brizzi, Scannavini, Cisternino, Centazzo, Dufourt, Correggia, Louvier any many others, performing over 50 world premieres. The ensemble has been engaged in collaborations with various ensembles such as Mitteleuropa Orchestra -M°Andrea Centazzo, Nuove Sincronie (Milan), Octandre (Bologne), and Symphonic orchestras of Belluno, Treviso, Udine, Portenone, Vicenza and Venice.

Among the recorded albums, the 1995 with Pléiades by Iannis Xenakis and Akira Nishimura's Ketiak and 1999 Percussioni d'Italia entirely dedicated to Italian composers - Scelsi, Correggia, Donatoni, Giommoni, Cisternino, with extremely positive comments from the critics.
The BDP has never neglected the didactic activities. An innovative concert-lesson project is promoted each and every year and is aimed to sensitise primary and secondary school students to the universe of Percussion Music.
