This charming flute duo was formed in 2005 when flutists Ronda Winter and Amanda Friedhoff met and discovered that when they performed together, the music they created was irresistible.
Amanda Friedhoff
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Amanda has been a member of the West Chester Symphony Orchestra, the Silver Sounds of Cincinnati, and the Shimmering Silver flute quartet, the latter two of which she was a founding member. During her residence with the West Chester Symphony, Amanda was lucky enough to have the opportunity to perform with world-
renown clarinetist, Richard Stoltzman. She was flutist for the Landen-Deerfield Theater production of âOliver!â and taught privately through the Athens Community Music School of Athens, OH for 4 years. Amanda was featured, with Shimmering Silver, on the 2004 National Flute Association recital âElectric Sparks.â
Amanda received her Bachelorâs Degree in Flute Performance from Ohio University. In pursuance of her Masterâs Degree, she is currently attending California State University, Sacramento studying with Laurel Zucker. Amanda has been playing flute for 14 years and has attended master classes with flutists Bradley Garner, Jill Felber, James Galway, Goran Marcusson, Jean-Michel Tanguy, Marina Piccinini, Randolph Bowman, Rebecca Andres, Jim Walker and held private conference with conductor Keith Lockart to discuss career options in music.
Amanda is currently working and performing for Vatican commissioned, Emmy nominated composer and guitarist Christopher Caliendo. Her teachers have included, Rebecca Andres, Bradley Garner, Alison Brown Sincoff, and Laurel Zucker.
Amanda performs on a Powell 3100 Flute, an Emmerson "Boston Legacy" Piccolo, and Gemeinhardt Alto Flute.
Ronda Winter
A highly sought-after teacher of instrumental music, Ronda originates from the central Sierra foothills of California. She holds a Bachelorâs Degree in Music from Thomas Edison State College in New Jersey and is currently pursuing a Masterâs Degree in Flute Performance at CSU Sacramento. Ronda holds a California State Teaching Credential in Music and has taught instrumental music both privately and in the public school system for nearly 20 years. She has studied flute for more than 27 years and has performed with bands, symphony orchestras, Celtic ensembles, chamber ensembles, and flute choirs. She started and directed the Porterville College Flute Choir from 1999-2003 and was a founding member of the Celtic performing group, The Tule River Ensemble. In 2005, Ronda was the first runner-up as a performer in the Festival of New American Music where she played Katherine Hooverâs Winter Spirits.
Ronda has been fortunate to have studied with and attended master classes with some of the finest flutists in the world. Rondaâs primary private teachers have been Frank Langone, Ray Fabrizio, Yamaha Artist Tracy Harris, and international recording artist Laurel Zucker. Rondaâs discography includes By the Tule Riverâs Edge on Tule River Records, Tracy Harris Live in Concert, and Grace Griffith: My Life on Blix Street Records.
Ronda performs on a Haynes Flute, Miyazawa Flute, Powell Piccolo, Armstrong Eb Flute, Miyazawa Alto Flute, and Yamaha Bass Flute. She also regularly performs on a variety of world flutes including the Irish flute, recorder, and Shakuhachi.
"I was delighted to hear the new 2006 CD release, MUSe, which featured fine ensemble performances by flutists Amanda Friedhoff and Ronda Winter. The repertoire consisted of music by composer Christopher Caliendo and certainly taxes any flutist's ability to interpret these South American flavored duets, trios and solos. Ms. Friedhoff and Winter admirably succeed in producing their first "all premieres" CD....and I certainly look forward to their next project!"
