Hailing from Seattle, Mofius is a band that has perfected the science of laying down the sort of sweet, funky grooves that make each and every song irresistible. They write songs that penetrate your mind, body, and soul, and as each moment passes, youâll find it impossible to even think about sitting still, and youâll find the dance floor utterly irresistible.

Mofius was created in April of 2004 by four friends who decided to put their shared love for good music and good times to good use. âI couldnât play with a better bunch of guys,â beams lead vocalist Alfonzo Woods. âEveryone brings something different to the table, but we donât step on each otherâs toes. Great chemistry, respect, good friends, and good musicians. Itâs a great combo, yet we all look so different when it comes to looks and style. I donât think anyone would imagine we were in a band together!â

Before they knew it, they had created something special. Chris Martin lays down the rhythms and establishes the framework, on top of which Tony Rivera offers a variety of smooth and tasty basslines. Together, these two form some of the tightest grooves around. Dave West steps up to offer a whirlwind of guitar licks that make musical boundaries disappear, while Woods offers his soulful voice, heartfelt and thought-provoking lyrics, and irresistible melodies. Itâs a sound that utilizes elements of a wide variety of styles. âItâs funk,â says West, âbecause itâs got groove. Itâs soul, because itâs heartfelt and genuine with great lyrics. Itâs rock, because itâs got passion, balls, and guitar solos. Itâs pop, because itâs very accessible to the average person, but meaty enough for a musicianâs earâ¦People seem to have difficulty when trying to categorize our music, which I take as a compliment. I hope that people find it fresh!â

And underneath it all, there seems to be something even bigger, some deep sense of respect and friendship that makes itself known through the amazing cohesiveness of every song. âMofius isnât about being a rock star or having delusions of grandeur,â says Rivera. âItâs about being real. Itâs about laughing when we take ourselves too seriously and working hard to make our dreams happen. Itâs about exploring the wines of the Pacific Northwest at rehearsal. Itâs about band sushi meetings. Itâs about being friends.â

Building upon this strong sense of friendship, Mofius spent the winter of 2005 in Ironwood Studios recording their debut release, Lost and Found, a three-song teaser that yielded a good amount of press and left reviewers (and fans) asking for more material. Mofius aims to please, so they went back into the studio and have just finished their first full-length album. In addition to these stellar recordings, the band is known for putting on high-energy live shows that create the sort of intensity that leaves every person in attendance feeling as though they were a part of the act. Thanks to both these things, the strong recordings and strong live shows, the band has been steadily developing a strong buzz throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond. They have been playing out as often as possible, and they plan to tour extensively in support of their current and upcoming releases. With so much momentum behind them, itâs difficult to predict just how far Mofius can go, but the band isnât letting it go to their heads.
