Most Poweful Monks is me, John Storms-Rohm, and all my wonderful friends who helped me transform idea into reality. These 8 songs are like 8 tiny seeds that were nourished into 8 full grown trees, with powerful drums as the roots, a funky bass as the trunk, killer guitars as branches, lush piano and synth moods as foliage, and dreamy, urgent vocals as the ripe fruit⦠dangling⦠vulnerable. Clean, classy production and post-production provided all the nutrients to make this music tree thrive in the jungle of recordings. For the listener who feels intrigued, and perhaps skeptical, about the name Most Powerful Monks, I will address the question of its meaning at the end. To those contented that a name provides its own meaning, I offer thanks.
The songs on MPMâs first CD, Moving in Waves, were composed over the course of three years in Chicago, Vermont, and India. The musical styles move from piano-driven modern rock, through psychadelic pop into inspirational/spiritual/world/folk-rock. One song even experiments with a house/metal hybrid sound thatâs hardly classifiable according to any already-identified genres. Recorded in basements, living rooms, and a pro Chicago recording studio, Moving in Waves promises the rawness and sincerity of an independent, self-produced project while providing all the enjoyment and satisfaction of listening to a professional-quality CD recording.
What is the power I seek? It is the power of revelation. I wish to stand up to the negative influences of my small universe, guiding them with the arm of compassion back to love, acceptance, and understanding. I wish to become a hero for myself that I may become a servant to others. I wish to renounce my own desires, attachments, ignorance, competitiveness, and hatred. I pray for all-acceptance in my relationship with Mother Earth and Her children. I pray for enjoyment for all. I hope you will enjoy this CD. I very much enjoyed making it.
