Details:
Elegantly melding funk and rock nâ roll, MOS Funnel combines
floor-stomping electricity with enough raw soul and poetics to turn every head in the room. Frontman Joe Corrado toured the pacific northwest during the turn of the century with alt-country band Punchtruck, promoting their self-released album 12th and Johnson. During that time, he refined his percussive guitar playing and scratchy vocals. Later Corrado returned to Chicago and continued searching for the root of that sound. Here he came together with cousin Ed Cullerton and Daniel Huber to form MOS Funnel. Ed, the bones of the band, was trained by master percussionist Jim Streich. Dan, a professional bassist with a self-designed music degree, uses both traditional and upright electric basses with reckless abandon. Punchtruck alumnus Justin Ringsak was brought in to add guitar textures, trumpet lines and electric bass. Along with a "Forked-Guitar" the bandâs use of two basses at the same time is looming and has rarely been seen before. Reveling at live shows in dimly lit bars and shantys, the members of MOS Funnel deliver a unique and energized live performance. Combining a tight focus on lyricism with rhythmic exploration, the bandâs live sets bring back good-time song-and-dance, with just enough funk spice to keep the crowd guessing.

In early 2006, MOS Funnel completed work on Rhythmic American Poetry, an album of original songs that combines the bandâs music with photographs to convey a visually audible story. The albumâs ten tracks, recorded via Bully Pulpit Mobile Studio in Chicago and Michigan, illustrate the range and depth of the band.

The bandâs influences are legion, with some of the most
important being Miles Davis, James Brown, Beck, Tom Waits,
Wilco, Otis Redding, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Johnny Cash,
Blind Melon, Bright Eyes, and Sly and the Family Stone.
