We call it "prog pop", like if Zappa wrote with The Police

11 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Progressive Rock, ROCK: Jam-band

Details:
Modern Day Atlas formally began in July of 2003. An eclectic mish-mash of rock, jazz, and funk, the group performs a wide variety of vocal and instrumental grooves.

Mike McClellan (guitar) and David Shaw (bass) are brothers and have been playing in various groups since 1988. Joe Divita (drums) initially met up with David Shaw at the University of the Arts in the mid 90s. Since then they have performed in a number of professional settings.

In December 2004 the band began recording their debut album "Let It Settle". The 11 tracks are the results of the bands collective improvisations and formal song writing. Vocal harmonies and progressive ensemble work are balanced by simple songwriting and strong melodies. Origivation Magazine (noted Delaware Valley music publication) recently bestowed "Let It Settle" with a 5-star review (scale of 1-5, with 5 being best), saying "Can prog-pop exist? Ask Modern Day Atlas. Actually, don't ask them - they're busy making badass prog-pop". (June '06 issue)

Our 1st live show was in June '05. Since then, we've played an average of between 1 and 2 shows of month in some of the Delaware Valley's top original music venues, including the Grape St. Pub, Abilene, and the Rusty Nail. Hopefully, we'll be at a venue near you soon enough.
