Details:
Mike Gillespie was born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan in a home where music was not only a hobby, but a habit. As the youngest of six siblings, the house was full of a variety of record collections, from Barry Manilow to Frank Zappa. Michael's Father John is past International President of Barbershop Quartet singing in America. "I remember many times being awakened in the middle of the night with the ring of four vocal chords blasting out a song". At a young age, he was infected like millions of others hearing the powerful sonic songwriting of the Beatles. "I remember distinctly the first time I heard 'She Loves You' and the hair stood straight up on my neck" says Mike. "I ran out and bought everything and anything Beatle" He saved up enough money from an after school clerical job to fund his new addiction and purchase his first guitar. He taught himself to play and sing whilst listening to songs from his favorite artist, The Beatles, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, etc. One of the first songs he penned is included on his current "Celebrate" collection entitled, "Maybe Now".
Michael founded and fronted many groups featuring his original music through out the years including Public Reaction, Justice and Honor Farm. Each group recorded a collection of EP's for sale at shows (soon to be available for purchase on the web). His current offering, "Celebrate" is a collection of songs written over the years. "These songs never really found a home in many of the groups I was in, being some of my most accessible songs; I felt it was time to get them out of my system and onto disc". All of the tracks on Celebrate were recorded in one week's time utilizing historic Studio 19 in Nashville. Michael currently resides in the Los Angeles area and performs locally.
"My hope is that people listening to my music have as much fun as I do making it". And for those of you wondering, he is not related to international Jazz great, Dizzy.
