How did you hear about Miss Phyllis?
Twenty-two years ago Phyllis Turnipseed-Khare, known
affectionately and professionally as "Miss Phyllis,"
released her first cassette of children's music, "When the
Sun is Up!" The tape was sold to families all over the world.
Two years later she released her second cassette, "Inside Rainbow Land!" It was also sold all over the United States, Canada, and around the world.
"The children who sang on that first tape now have their own children!" reports Ms. Turnipseed-Khare. "I knew it was time to re-release the music for a new generation. The music is timeless and great for very young children."
This re-release is in CD format and includes all the music from both tapes and includes two bonus tracks from a new project, "Miss Phyllis' Singing Kitchen." Almost 80 minutes of music for children 1-10 years old. "I have many adults who listen to this music, too" says Ms. Turnipseed-Khare.
"Miss Phyllis" was on the Iowa Arts Council artist rosters for twelve years. She traveled extensively around the Midwest to perform in schools and festivals. She's given over 200 performances and taught 20 week-long songwriting residencies.
She's taught hundreds of children how to write their own songs, and perform them!
She was also on the Iowa Arts Council Sesquicentennial Touring Arts Team. She has several music projects available for Iowa History teachers and now this collection of her earliest music.
Miss Phyllis also taught music in a private school for eight years. She taught hundreds of children general music through innovative and award-winning lesson plans.
She directed several choirs and a small orchestra program, too! Miss Phyllis was a fun and exciting performer especially when conducting a choir of young singers.
When she decided to re-release the music she thought about re-recording some of the songs, but her children, now grown, convinced her that it would the wrong thing to do. "They felt it would somehow mess up a perfectly good memory of a very special time in our lives."
The songs are just right for very young children. Just turn on the music and watch what a young child will do. They connect right away with the melody and the words. These songs are timeless and full of life!
"When the Sun is Up!" and "Inside Rainbow Land!" together on one CD - with bonus music, too! This is a great gift to give to a young child.
Miss Phyllis is currently living in Florida with the sounds of the sea in her ears. Please feel free to email her at phyllisonthebeach@yahoo.com
