Micky is a guitarist, keyboard player and vocalist who has played with some of West Africas top stars like Gyedu Blay Ambolley and the African Brothers band. He has performed on stage with said artists in both Europe and in Ghana.
Coming from German and Ghanaian heritage,Micky has managed to fuse a sound that resonates a little differently from the norm perhaps borrowing from the two different cultures. Imagine West African drumming laced with heavy metal guitars or maracas with rhodes. He is not afraid to experiment. Many of the music on the radio sound the same day in and day out and it is Micky's aim to introduce a myriad of colors of music that defy genres but yet sound pleasing to the ear.
At the same time in the spirit of Bob Marley, Marcus Garvey and Martin Luther King, he wants to bring attention to the many injustices in the world. He is not all about politics though but conjures up lyrics on a whim and covers all topics.
Micky spent considerable time in London, England where the the influence of West Indian Reggae music allowed him to experiment with different genres. Just think of West African Hilife and cultural music mixed with Reggae, added to a touch of Jazz and British style Rock sprinkled with Hip hop, Blues, Rock, and Classical music and the result is what Micky likes to call alternative or "Hybrid Reggae".
Micky is an acomplished guitarist but also plays the keyboard, drums and especially likes using all the technological advances in digital recording by programming all his sequences and drumbeats. Micky uses Roland digital recording and sequencing equipment exclusively.
As music evolves,it is refreshing to see that other forms of music are squirming in their birth throes trying hard to be heard above the din and monotonous cacophony of the radio play we hear around us.
Hydrid Reggae is always refreshingly unpredictable. One hears shades of all genres of music. It is new and exciting music.
Micky has had Number one singles in Ghana and West Africa and now that he has moved to California, there are plans to move to the world stage. The first album to hit Cd baby is "Tayaman" which was originally released in 1993 as 'Mothers". The hit song "Own land"(Track 3) is an Indictment of colonialism and the ensuing expliotation of people and mineral resources.
Track 2,"Time keeps on changing" speaks for itself. Track 8,"Kweku Playboy" is a warning about the deadly disease AIDS. Track 4, "Mothers" is a testament to their unconditional love. Micky's songs cover all topics.
On Track 5. "USA" stands for United States of Africa. If Africa were able to stand together as one nation, what a powerful nation it would be.One brittle broomstick becomes super strong when bound together to become a broom and is impossible to break.
